Have any of you out there had a surgery after failing to find relief following a scalene block? If so, what kind of procedure/entry method was it and what was the result?
I just got back from having my diagnostic scalene block at USC by Radiology head Dr. Grant at USC and unfortunately have not had any relief. I was really expecting/hoping to feel something from it! In the first 30 minutes following the injections to both anterior and medius, I did feel a strange sensation in my arm, but no pain relief in my shoulder or neck. In that 30 minutes it just felt like my arm was a little bit more lightweight than it normally is, but did nothing for my pain. After 30 minutes, back to normal. It has now been 3.5 hours. I'm a 22-year-old male and my symptoms are severe pain in rear shoulder area and sides/front of neck, and occasional tingling/numbness in arms, hands, legs, and feet. |

I am one who had a negative scalene block. The negative scalene block is one thing that convinced me that my ribs were the problem and a simple scalenectomy wouldn't do the trick. It also helped me choose the transaxillary approach since the full scalenectomy was not necessary.
