Default I am Having Surgery.

I just wanted everyone to know that I will be having surgery in early August with Dr. Donahue at Mass General.

I hope to be in touch afterwards to let all curious minds know how things are going. Thank you for everyone who has been so kind to me and I hope to continue to enjoy all your company.

Mark

Cool Smirk I'mmm baaaack!

I am so excited to hear you scheduled your surgery Mark (heybro) and you too 16rhonda, thanks for thinking of me. He's booking into Oct. and can't believe it. I told him we spread the word over and over about him and boy does he blush. His wife is going to start working with him in a month or so so you may meet her too, she's going to be his TOS nurse, I think that's how he described it.

Sorry this will be short. I apologize for not getting back sooner. My right hand has been numb w/pins and needles since op. Not uncommon, but hard to type, don't always hit the key dowm all the way.
It is 4 weeks today, I saw the wonderful Dr. D yesterday. Had a nice visit as usual. I have a follow-up on Aug 19 at 2. Had to miss my 3 wk.
OK, pre-op did my 3 day showers, came off recommended vit/herbs. Day of surgery went smoothly. Did the scalenectomy which he says is truely a partial scalenectomy, because, as he showed me on his computer the scalene muscle comes from a point much further up than where he cuts. Removed rib, scar tissue.
When he came to my room day of surgery he asked how I felt. Told him back hurt tremendously, he said it was where he had to cut the rib away. Told him about my hand and he said it will take a while but will come back, gave me exercises for it. Nurses were great! Ride home not as bad as expected. Friend came in and does meals for me because of my hand. When I discovered there was a problem with it I was throwing water at myself involuntarily, it was hysterical. The next 2 times I hit myself in the eye and mouth. It continues to get better tho. He told me to not use my right hand for drinks, but use it for everything else. Ask me about the huge mistake I made on my exercises some time. Right now I'm going to get off. After having this for over 40 years I don't know what the results will be, I do know I have faith that there will be improvement, I'm hoping for 100%, Dr D and I said we'll wait the year and maybe a little more to see. I waited this long I can wait another year.
I can't think of any questions you might have so as Dr. D says when I tell him I have questions, FIRE AWAY!

Good luck, remember to take it slow after the surgery and have plenty of help around.
