I just spoke with another person who has had a scalenectomy with Dr. Brown.
She said it was mush easier than she had expected and that she is so much better. She traveled from Arizona to San Diego to see him and to move forward with the surgery. She is thrilled with the results. She had been in a car accident and had severe numbness and pain in her arm. She also had weakness and loss of muscle in her thumb. I thought some of you might be interested... |

Thanks for sharing.
I forget, do they just pull the anterior scalene, or the medial as well? I presume they don't pull the posterior. |

And it's not implicated in the awful TOS symptoms which mostly derive from the neurovascular structures being compressed between the anterior and medial scalene (and first rib and collar bone).
I'm just curious if they can get away with pulling either the anterior or the medial, rather than both. I recall a botox study that got good results just by treating the anterior. |

I'm not sure which one it is either but the last patient that I talked to said that one of her scalene muscles was so bad that dr. Brown had to take it out entirely, which is unusual. She had a few days longer of recovery than the others did. Still, she said she would do it again in a heart beat.
