Hi everyone.
Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers. My son came out of it ok. He was discharged last night. He was in a lot of pain for the first 24 hours, but it seems to be under control right now. They sent him home with a children's liquid narcotic, which helps. Unfortunately, it made him sick today. But he's on anti-nausea medicine, so hopefully that will clear up. His surgery only took about 40 minutes. They let me be with him until he was out, which was great. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Freischlag andher team. Absolutely great. His arm is in a sling and he is afraid to move it at all. I am just hoping that he'll get some relief from the pain, headaches, and swelling and get back to his activities soon. I'll update again in the next few weeks. Talk about stressful. On Friday(the 25th) my mom had emergency triple bypass and heart replacement surgery at hershey med after being helicoptered there on thursday. We have spent the last week living in hospitals and completely stressed out. They didn't think my mom would make it, but she is much better now. She is talking and sitting up, so things look good. thanks again for the wishes. |

My goodness! Have you been through enough!!! My prayers are with you, your son and mom. What a difficult time. I am so glad both seem to be doing well. My sons surgery, very minor was on the same day so while I was thinking of my son I was also thinking of yours. Best of luck to both for a speedy recovery, and to you for some well needed rest! Linda

Yay! Im so glad to hear that your son is doing well! Tell him to hang in there - he will start to feel better in no time!
When this happened to me and I had to have my surgery, I was so just so thankful it was me, instead of my 13 year old son... So Im glad to hear that you are doing okay too! Thanks so much for the update - I'll be looking forward to hearing how he is recovering! |

In Remembrance

Wow, your mom & son have quite the anniversaries to celebrate now...and thank God for them!!!
As for your son, encourage him to walk around whatever inside areas you have to open those lungs. Remember that (in all of the cases I've read) they had to deflate one or more to do the surgery, and if we don't open them up, that can sometimes later cause problems. So breathe big, deep, as a special exercise. (Obviously you can't do it for long as you'd get dizzy.) If it were me, I would do anything with those hands that would involve what we call in work comp "fine manipulation." No computer, games, art, writing, etc. Unless and until PT says to. For me, that is what made me sick, you see? So careful as you go. God bless, bless, bless your little family. Hurray! |
