Default Cortizone shot

Hi everyone ! It's so nice to be back on the board ! Hope everyone is doing o.k.....

I know this has been a topic before but I was wondering.. I just got a Cortisone Shot in the Left shoulder.. ( this morning ) As some of you know I have a Frozen Left Shoulder and have had this now for 5 months ! I finally was able to see an Ortho last week and he set me up to get the shot for today . My shoulder feels like it has 50 tons on it and it hurt more than I imagined.

Has anyone had good results from the Cortisone shot ?? How long before you started feeling better and how long did it last ?? I am very hopeful with alot of hard therapy I will be able to get the shoulder moving soon !
I miss my other arm !!!!!

Thanks for all your input. And as always - Have a (Hopefully) pain free
week !!

Hugs,

Dolfinz

Finz- I've had cortizone shots before.... I had one in my right shoulder when I was having problems with that, and I had one in my right knee, when a cyst started hurting so much that I couldn't move it.

Your right about the feeling- feels swollen, huge, and like it was 18 tons. I hurt like HECK for 4-5 days after the one in my shoulder, and for 2 days after the one in my knee. They were way more sore that I thought they would be. That being said, they did help for 6+ months.

Good luck, and I hope you get your shoulder thawed....

Hey Dolfinz,

Right now I too have a frozen left shoulder. THis frozen shoulder crap sucks. My ortho did a cortisone shot and it certainly helped the pain but its been three weeks and I see maybe a 20% improvement in mobility but I have to do the exercises.

Apparently frozen shoulder can last for up to a year or more. My ortho said its connected to Diabetes or autoimmune and they dont really know why the body attacts the shoulder capsule and makes adhesions.

I am not diabetic but insulin resistant and the cortisone did mess up my sugar a bit.

THe ortho said if there is not improvement in 6 months they could try and MUA...manipulation under anathesia where they put you under and gently move the arm through rotations to break the scar tissue and adhesions.

My endo doc said not to do another cortisone shot but rather next time to do a saline shot and sometimes that works.

I am going to PT as well. Let me know if you want to discuss exercises.

Default Cortizone shot

I worked my way through the HMO plan for frozen shoulder problems and what they now believe is TOS, and had the recommended series of three shots. I could not believe the pain from the shots and was not warned about it. They will not give me another shot.

I have since had capsule release surgery on the shoulder and have great range of movement in the arm. This was one year after the accident and had not seen any improvement with the shots and almost daily PT.

Now if they could solve the TOS problems so that I could sleep, I would be all set. This is a result of traffic accident almost three years ago and six doctors ago.

Hi Penman and fellow stater....

The Doctor told me that RSD and TOS are most likely to blame for the shoulder. It has been frustrating and depressing.. and unfortunately I am now having problems with my left foot. I also think it could be related to Autoimmune conditions. I kind of figured that the shot may or may not help break up the adhesions.. but I am going to try none the less. I hope I don't have to go the way of Manual manipulation ! I am glad that you are feeling better and I hope everyone.. (Shelly ) gets better as I hope I do too !

Thanks for input guys I will keep an update...

Hugs,

Hey Dolfinz,

I am sorry I have not PM'd you yet. I will, its just been crazy here.

Penman I would be interested to hear more about your shoulder capsule release surgery and what it involved. Was an MUA - manipulation under anathesia?

Happy 4th everyone.

Finz- my knee is doing better so far, thank you. I'm glad b/c the only option was surgery, and I didn't really want to do that! My left side is still giving me trouble tho. I have good days an bad, but lately the bad have been more frequent, and the "good" days aren't as good as I'd like. I think alot has to do with the fact that we just moved to Nashville ~2 months ago. Bot a house with a yard, etc I've sent myself into quite a few flares just trying to figure out the right way to do the yardwork, hang stuff, etc. And i drive 30 miles each way to work every day. boo.
I hope you feel at least a little better!

Hey Dabbo, congrats on the new house.. I love the pic !!!!

I am sorry your not feeling better... I find that if I do just the slightest work of any kind I go into flares too.. so I just pace myself.. if I can't get down what I wanted to do well then it gets done the next day ! Yesterday the shoulder felt pretty good.. until I decided to make a Strawberry's & Cream Pie for a cookout .. and an hour later I was popping the Vic's and the muscle relaxers ! I start therapy up again Monday.. I know the shoulder is not going to move as easily as I hoped.. but I am going to try like hell to put up with the pain and get this moving ! Wish me luck !!

I hope the rest of the weekend is somewhat comfortable for ya... Hang in there MF.....

Hugs.......
