yes, every so often i get a fast racing heartbeat - feels like its jumping around in my chest....it settles quickly though - it comes and goes, may not happen for ages then will have a few in a row.
have no idea what it could be im afraid!.....one of those tos related mysteries?.....

To get a true reading of your heart you should wear a monitor for a 24 hour period, this shows if your heart rate is high even when your sleeping. I had to have around 4 ECG's and everytime they put the monitor on me my heart rate would go up because I was nervous. Even when I check it myself it will jump up. The monitor goes on your wrist and measures your wrist pulse over 24hrs. This will give you a true indication whether or not its a nervous thing or your heart rate is truly beating more than it should. It could be a TOS thing as a few of us on here have mentioned heart problems. Mine is not really a racing heart its more of a jump / miss in my heart beat every now and then (im talking every couple of weeks) then it just goes back to normal. Good luck with it all!

i would tend to agree with dabbo that it could be a nervous/anxious thing...lets face it im sure pain makes us all anxious at sometimes or another. its worth having checked out though - i was also put on a 24 hour heart monitor (pre TOS) and they concluded it was stress...and put me on propanalol for a year. It hasnt left me completely though as i still get the jumping heart thing every so often

pain most definately raises your heart rate!!!!!! It releases adrenalin which will increase the rate....fight or flight syndrome your body is ready to escape if it needs to.
hope you can find a way to measure it when they are not around....there is also a thing called white coat syndrome that makes your heart rate go up when they take it at the office.

Vic just stole my 'WHITE COAT SYNDROME" response.
I had a couple of holter monitors which discovered PVc's after my second surgery. It has calmed down on its own. Yes, pain, life itself & meds can create our fibrilations to increase at any time.

I don't have a pump.
I went to the doc Tuesday b/c I was hacking up a lung. It started sunday when i felt like i got hit by a truck. anyways- she was a "little" freaked because my heart rate when I got there was 130bpm. 30 min later, it was still 113bpm. Preliminary dx was walking pneumonia, and I had to follow up wed. for a chest exam. That ruled out pneumonia, so I have bronchitis. wheeeee. back to the heart rate- Tuesday when I got home, I dug out a polar heart rate monitor/watch thing. it ranged from 89-135bpm over 2 hours. by wednesday a.m. when I went back to the doc, it had dropped to 78bpm.

Hopefully it was that high just because of stress, infection which this antibiotic will knock out.
