Hi,
I have just found this forum ![]() I had an operation for TOS in 2004 - scalenectomy. Relief afterwards was almost immediate. For 4 years I have been free from pain, just recently (about 5 months now), I have started to experience pain in my neck, cold hand (right hand), tingling, numbness, general heaviness etc. Reoccuring symptoms as before. I have had an MRI where they injected dye into my nervous system, I've had a nerve conduction test and physio - the tests have confirmed that I have a trapped nerve. They aren't sure if it's spinal or thoracic, I have a spinal MRI booked for next week. I have been told that if it's thoracic, I will have to have a rib re-section? I am scared at the thought of a) having another operation and b) having another large scar - bit obviously the thought of having no pain far outweighs this. I'm just feeling a bit low I guess and upset that the problem has come back again. Thought it would be nice to chat to other people who experience and know what I'm going through. Sharon ![]() |

I am sorry to hear that you TOS has possibly returned, even after you going through surgery.
I am currently scheduled to have two scalene injections done and another EMG. I had a surgery done on my shoulder by an orthopedic doctor because he pretty much ignored my other problems(pain, discolored hand and arm, and all my other problems) which possible made my TOS worse. The doctor I am currently seeing is specialized in TOS and has said I defenitly have it and he thinks I will have to have one or two surgeries. This is very hard for me to deal with, they say nursing is a bad idea, but its been my dream. I have all classes in order to go into the program and I have already applied for the program. It scares me to think that I may not be able to reach my dream, but I am keeping my fingures crossed. I am only 22 and I have been dealing with this for a year. I can only hope for the best. I was wondering though how everything went after your surgery, like your job and mobility. I also was wonder if you had the scalene injections done? Thanks for your time ![]() |

Hi saramk,
We have a few nurses with TOS here , some don't post anymore though. ![]() A few got injured catching falling patients, and the the awkward positions of caring for patients- reaching across the bed, moving beds/patients, paperwork. I'm going to copy your post to a thread of it's own so we can all say Hi. here it is- http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...ad.php?t=79713
