Default Meds

This is my last thread.

My email is [click tshadow 's name for email or PM contact links]

I find it helpful to disclose my actual meds / dose to others, so they can know what's going on with at least my pain doc. Not everyone agrees with this, and I certainly don't like posting it on site.

But if you want to my prior and current meds used, which ones seemed to help, which ones caused me problems, etc., I macro something I can easily send you. IF I'm up to it.

So I put that out to those who might find it helpful.

Love, TAm

Default blast out of past

hi remember me? i am getting lots of experience with meds caring for my dad & stepmom. she has cancer and they have stopped treating it. the ovarian cancer is in the intestines and causing a near 100% blockage. fluid in the abdominal cavity is pressing and collapsing her lung. i am giving her lorazepam sublingually to sleep. she has a pic line and receives saline & sucrose. also a g tube where we drain her. she has maybe a month to live. my dad is recovering from a triple bypass & heart valve replacement. i am living with them in los angeles. i have learned a lot of nursing stuff in the last month.

i am not suffering much from my mild tos, but the hospital has given me some bronchitis/sinus infection that seems resistant to any treatment. i have discovered i get my best pain relief from yoga but withholding certain poses, like cobra. my problem with meds is the side effect of insomnia.

Tied, I am so sorry to hear your news, and I wasn't sure at first (from your email) what your stepmom was suffering from.

We have a lot of cancer in our family, and hospice used to come and we had morphine given for relief - it is (I think) the hardest illness to care for (and especially if children) - it's just so hard to see your loved ones become more ill and there's nothing you can do but just be there.

With TOS, this would be an unbearable situation...I hope you are getting some support somewhere for your own feelings...and of course, we are here when and if you can post.

(Btw, I just meant my "last post" for the night. It is very painful to even sit and share with the group now, my TOS is in higher pain than ever, and I am allergic to so many meds now, we are just switching around trying to find something that doesn't make me break out, freak out, or vomit...yuck.)

God bless you Tied and thank you to all who responded. I wish there was a way I could get all of us in one room with no travel...

Post thx for support

she has stage 4 ovarian cancer. it has metastasized to intestines in spite of hysterectomy and chemo. she is 84. chemo has stopped working and intestines are blocked. fluid builds up in abdomen and is collapsing a lung.

she has a pic line and receives saline & glucose there. also a g-tube for drainage. we got a hospital bed 2day and oxygen. she has morphine & lorazepam available. i am now sleeping on the couch so i can be there in a hurry. dad is very sad and has been crying, they have been 2gether 44 yrs.

at 1st i was having panic attacks but now i am just sad.

2morrow her neice coming from holland, so i get to have an outing to lax. the height of my social life, besides visiting nurses.

hang in there tied. when it's all said and done you will be able to gather a lot of strength from knowing you were there for her. My Dad had lung cancer. the same thing happened to him: his bladder and intestines shut down and blocked and he refused any intervention. The last 3 days were hell. Hospice gave him morphine liquid orally and suppository. He died in Feb '06.

Hug your Dad a lot.

Anne
