Can my expert friends here respond to a question on NT Peripheral Neuropathy site about LIDODERM PATCHES & adverse reactions with other ingesting meds?

Hi Cyndy et al,

I did some research on this medication. The major issues with the lido patch and other meds are heart medications. If you are on any cardiac medications like antiarrhytmic drugs.....ie: tocainide (tonocard) or mexiletine (mexitil)
or any other local anesthetic as this could build up the amount of lidocaine in your system. Main issue is cardiac and if you take a lot of migraine medications that is also a concern as it effects your blood vessel tone and it can interfere with the lido patch if you are using MAX dose of the patch!!!
If you are using one patch for the 12 hours as suggested you should be fine with the patch and migraine meds. If you are using 3 patches on your whole body just be careful.

Also to note is that if you have any liver disease be careful as the lidoderm may not be cleared from your body in the appropriate way as you may have dificulty in metabolizing it.

That's all I can think of at the moment....please all add to what I've said!!

Sometimes, when nothing else is working, fiance puts the patches EITHER,

on my neck,

on the knife in the back (how many of you get those grape sized spasms? Fiance finds them and put the patch on them, after rubbing them very softly to smooth them down.

And then across my hand or my elbow.

I think it's a limit of two or maybe three on my box.

Some people get allergies from the patch itself, or the lidocaine. I notice the damned Fentanyl patches the Plastic itself causes a big read mess. I found my upper inner arm best for those patches, plus I want them over some big veins so the medicine gets in there. But they are VERY low dose...

You are correct that 3 is the limit they say to have on your body at once but they did clinical trials with what I believe are five on at one time.....fine line to walk....I cut mine up and put on scales and around neck down back then down towards knife in back....can somebody please stop making these damn knives!!!......then sometimes another further down...if scrapbooking to keep the pain at bay. I cut all mine in half so I am using a patch and a half total.

I like to keep them on for the 24hrs not 12 I get much better results...take them off in the am to shower or bath or quick wipe up whatever the day is able to let us do.......LOVE these patches...my heart goes out to those who know that it is going to them....you know who u are! Without you no patches!!! love ya to bits!!!

I have found that if your patch is slipping off a little and not staying in place at the edges instead of tape over the patch I use "flash tape" it is used in the fashion industry to hold on strapless dresses or blouse closed where there is a gap so can be used on clothing and skin.....great stick to it and very little irritation. Hi all!

I was able to find the sticky tape at victoria secret, but im sure there is another place that would have it for cheaper. In our area we just dont have that many options for things like this. thanks for the tip, I am always having problems with getting my patches to stay where i put them!
not anymore! I will also try cutting them in half for my scalene area so i dont have to patch up quite so much, i was doing a whole three, if i cut them in half i can do the 1 1/2 and save.

I guess what im trying to say here is thanks, I would have never thought to do what you are doing! and I can see where it helps!

Flector is a new non-narcotic analgesic with anti-inflammatory. Better than Lidoderm.

I have used the flector (diclofenac) anti inflammatory when they had it as a liquid you could put on your sore areas and it really didn't help me as my damage was nerve i think and an anti inflammatory is really not going to help my kind of injury......I did accidentially put it into my eye one time thinking it was my eye drops and oh my GOD did I want to die!!!! Hurt like hell but the swelling went down...LOL..not~~~ I had to wait a good hour before I could see again!! Darn poor eyesight!!!

The bestest thing to is find the buring nerve pain. I cut up 3 per day & place along the nerve pain path for me. Using a full patch is a waste on 1 area. Spread the wealth!

Example: 1 on my right BP, 1 posterior upper arm under arm pit, 1 above elbow, 1 posterior Ulnar nerve forearm, 1 right hand, 1 left palm.

Use alcohol to dry areas, place & stretch out patch

As pain days change so do the placement of the patches. Traps, cervical, wrist, bum, foot, toes....

How in the world do you people convince your doctors you need patches? My pain management doctor (who lives in a fantasy world), would laugh if I even asked abut them.
