I am coming at this from the other side... I hit my head in February after a slip and fall... but we had been trying to conceive(ttc) for about a year... and I had suffered a miscarriage right before the fall (2 weeks prior). We had barely had time to process the MC when I fell...
It's been almost nine weeks, and I am only just now beginning to want intimacy that includes intercourse.... For many reasons. Fear due to the miscarriage, fatigue and head aches due to the fall... and, the fact that (TMI, sorry) I am afraid to even have an orgasm since the activity needed jostles my head and hurts me, and I am certain the rise in blood pressure during the orgasm itself would actually hurt me... I now find myself extremely frustrated on all levels. TTC is not easy esp with fertility issues, but now things just seem overwhelming most of the time. I do finally have a time or two well I finally actually FEEL like having sex, but it's still the exception... We too had a very fulfilling private life... So - My add on question - how can I enjoy sex when I am constantly worried about my head? Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Reading these posts has been very helpful to me! I have been going through the same issue;i still love who I am with but I am definitely not at the same level of intimacy where we were before.(aka none now) i know dealing with this is hard for him too so I hope he will find this thread beneficial.
I hope that you find the answers you are looking for c-giver, and you definitely have great resources here in this forum. Keep us posted! |

This may be TMI but as a male recovering from TBI and other injuries it was at least 6 months before I could even have an erection, partly from emotional difficulty and partly due to injury in the pelvic area causing low T. Thanks to the pharmacology industry for testosterone replacements and Levitra our sex life is more or less back to normal, but then again my injury was a year and a half ago.

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition. Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life. |

Thanks Lightrail... I know I am pushing things, but I just long to be "normal" again.... plus, we are in the middle of fertility treatments, so we really don't have much of a choice regarding intimacy... it has to happen... and yes, I know, TTC with PCS is nuts, but being a bit older, I just don't want to wait....

Understand. Best to you both. Maybe some relaxation techniques such as mindful meditation, a warm bath and/or massage prior to the "main event" would be helpful.
We had to ease back into the intimate part of our relationship too and it took patience and understranding on both our parts. Best wishes on the TTC, hope it's successful.
