There is no supplement called just HTP. 5-HTP is a metabolite of L-Tryptophan. My doctor suggests taking the L-Tryptophan form. Your body knows how to moderate the levels of Trytophan when you take is as L-Tryptophan. . 5-HTP bypasses the L-Tryptophan moderating system.
Xanax is a serious drug. I was on a benzo (clonazapam sold as the brand name drug Klonopin ) but it was horrible. I was changed to the gabapentin/Neurontin. It was much better and did not leave me sleepy the next day. It is well tolerated and has minimal side effects. It has none with me.

The Neurontin does not make me sleep. It lets my mind settle down so I can sleep naturally. It does not have the drowsy effects of the benzo. I take it an hour and a half before going to bed. It is mostly out of my system by morning. I slept 8 hours last night.
