This was a follow up test April 2011 (12 months post-MVA) compared to October 2010 (6 months post-MVA).

Diagnosis:
Amnestic Disorder Due to Mild Traumatic Brain Injury
Multiple medical diagnoses including chronic pain; status post mild TBI

Results of current evaluation revealed a significant probable, residual deficit in verbal learning and short-term recall of verbal information, which is consistent with the results of previous testing.

Marked improvement was noted in the patient's divergent reasoning for nonverbal information.

These data suggest the patient is well aware of her functional limitations, and that it is likely having an adverse effect upon her vocational functioning and her ability to function in everyday life. She is likely, as a result, irritable and displays poor frustration tolerance. The patient's deviations, moreover, are likely related to her MVA in April of 2010, and, unfortunately, are very likely permanent.

Quite a report for such a short report. How are you doing with what it says? It is not a death sentence as a prognosis for your life. There are lots of things you can do to work within your limitations.

I forget. Have you applied for SSDI?

It can take the pressure off the need to push yourself with your web business. You can still work with SSDI and make up to $1000 per month. Continuing to work helps with the frustration levels and keeps one connected with life.

The report is limiting in how it describes your condition. Did it include any test scores or scales? I am interested in seeing them by PM if you are willing. The report is an interpretation of the scores and scales. Understanding the specific scores can take some of the turmoil out of the report.

WAIS, WMS, MMPI, Trail Making, etc scores can help to get a better understanding of how to learn work-arounds to your limitations. Rather than trying to use a brain function that does not work well, one can learn to use other skills to work-around that limitation.

I summarized; it's actually 5 pages long including 2 pages for test scores. I go back May 20th to discuss results with Neuropsychologist. Results were not a surprise so I've been prepared. Just taking things step by step. Attorney will now work on insurance settlement.

I have not applied for SSDI yet. It's my understanding that I need to deal with my insurance settlement from MVA first.

Fortunately the worst of the weather has been going just to the North of us. We were under tornado warnings several times last week but none touched down.

SSDI can take quite some time. It took me three years to get approved. It also has an almost automatic denial system for the first application. It is worth getting the automatic denial over with. Your earniong since the accident will be reviewed to see if or when you dropped below the maximum income threshold. If your income has been below the $1000 per month average, after expenses, since your injury, it is worth getting the process started. IMO.

It might be worth a call to a SSDI attorney to ask about the timing of starting your application.

I just found this online at a few different legal web sites. <The second program is Social Security Disability (SSD). If you are receiving Social Security Disability no matter what your age you are most likely also receiving Medicare benefits. Social Security Disability is not a means tested program. Your eligibility for this program is not affected by any change in your assets or your income. What this means is that any money you receive from a settlement in a lawsuit or by an inheritance will not affect your benefits.>
