I had my bang on the head in January this yr, suffered with PCS for 5 months and then it basically went away. Yay, I'm free!!! I thought I went on holiday, did a lot of walking in the fresh air then came back to work and onto a stressful project. Got through the project with no symptoms but now, after 6 weeks with no symptoms it has come back in full. Damn, damn!!! Anyone else had this (or is that a silly question!!).
Thanks Jane |

I'm sorry to hear about your relapse.
I haven't gotten to 100% yet, but I have had some major symptoms go away for a good chunk of time only to reappear later due to my trying to push too hard. It's discouraging, but I try to remind myself that if it's possible for the symptoms to go away once, it's possible for the symptoms to go away again! |

Yes, it's tricky because the symptoms went away completely, making me think it was gone.
Think I'm going to bite the bullet and ask for a referral to a neurologist. Have been reluctant to do this as medical profession so far have been no help at all (a particularly stupid doctor at A+E told me I had a virus and should just go back to work just after I had the accident, thus delaying recovery) but....perhaps a specialist might have a better idea than GP's. You are right though, I'm sure the symptoms will go away again, as they did go away before. Let's hope we both escape this one day! |

Make sure your neurologist has experience with TBI/PCS! My first neurologist, who I thought would be helpful as a specialist, was no help and basically told me after 3 months I was crazy and that my symptoms could no longer be related to my accident!
I have found a team of Drs who work exclusively with TBI and it has made all the difference. My relapses seem to be related to emotional/psychological stress. I have had this happen twice now where I was at 95% of my old self for a few weeks then something really stressful happened and I was back to square one. |

Can you find a clinic in a hospital or elsewhere that focuses on TBIs? A team approach often makes sense, and might include a neurosurgeon, neuropsychiatrist, sports medicine doctor, rehabilitation therapists, etc.
One clue as to who might be good is who gets quoted in the media when it comes to concussions (no guarantee, but it's a start). IMO you don't want someone who deals with concussions/TBI every so often; you want someone (or a team) that deals with it all the time and is practical, experienced, compassionate, observant, patient, nonjudgemental, attentive to the latest research findings, etc. |
