Does anyone know if consuming alcohol is 'bad' if you have PCS?
I've had PCS for 3 months. I imagine it certainly can't help at all, but I have scoured the internet for information on the subject and have found literally nothing. The only thing I've read is that some PCS sufferers have a 'lack of tolerance for stress and alcohol', which is actually what scared me away from drinking for the first 2 months. Eventually I gave in and just did it, and I felt as good as I always do when I drink. I've done it a handful of times since, perhaps indulging a bit too much on a few occasions. I'd like to know more about the combination of alcohol and PCS, if anyone knows anything. I searched the PCS forum and only found one topic regarding alcohol. The guy who responded condemned drinking, saying it was the 'equivelant to suffering another concussion' and that it could 'reverse the healing process', but it seemed very speculatory and uninformed to me. I wish there was more information out there about this. |

Research suggests that one serving of alcohol per day will not harm people with PCS, and the relaxation effect may even be beneficial. Your body heals better when it's not under stress, so a small amount should be fine.
Intoxication should be avoided, but just listen to your body. If a few drinks has no ill effects and no new symptoms arise or get worse, I see no reason to worry. Symptoms are how your body communicates to your mind, so listen to them. Enjoy. |

Just came back from holiday where I drank in excess of normal, On holiday! being the excuse... I was so relaxed, I suffered only 2 episodes the whole week which is really good for me...
I went out sat night and had 3 glasses of wine over the course of the evening and ended up in a bad way.... I think it was due to the fact that an episode started when I got to the pub, (slowed down talking, slurred speech,) but rather than "listen" to my body's signals; I was determined to carry on as normal.... I ended up much more drunk than I ever should have been with extreme loss of balance/mobility ![]() |
