Confused whooshing noises
I wanted to know if anyone else has "whooshing" noises. It's like a whoosh, whoosh, whoosh and can vary in how loud it is. I mentioned this to the doctor and he looked at me like I had a third eye. I tried telling him if my head isn't whooshing it's hurting.... Last night the whooshing noises woke me up along with the pain behind my eyes. I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this. Thank you!!!

It sounds like you have a case of tinnitus. It's basically ringing in the ears, but sounds like different things to different people. For me, it was like a computer screen buzzing, but really loud. For the first couple of months it was constant and overwhelming. As I've started to heal, it's like someone has turned down the volume. Its still there, but I can tune it out most of the time. However, if I'm having a bad day or do too much, it increases to full volume.

It's been a good barometer of whether I can tolerate different activities/situations. I hope this helps.

Thanks Smilin Eyes!!! This does help me alot.... It leads me to asking myself...what the heck is my doing while sleeping that is making it go to full volume..lol... I would think the MD would have known that answer.... I did go to ENT and he said everything looks good. I have conductive hearing loss and this whooshing sound isn't helping..... I cant wear my hearing aid since my inury..... turning up the world is torture..if you can imagine. I'm sorry your having a stressed day. Do something kind for yourself. :0)

It's probably not what you are doing in your sleep, but what did during the day. I know sometimes mine is delayed. Right now, I'm babysitting for a relative, and tonight the buzzing will be back because it's not normally something I do and it's for a small child who needs a lot, haha

Yup! I occasionally have the whooshing sound too. Usually happens when im laying on my side in bed. It goes away on its own after a while. But definetly annoying.

Suffered a TBI with PCS on April 25th 2011 from multiple blows to the head from falling, unconscious for 12 hours with no memory of event. Hit the back of my head, and above right eye. MRI and CT negative. Symptoms included constant headaches (migraine, pressure, tension, icepicks), dizziness, tinnitus, visual changes, photophobia, fatigue, "spacing out", word finding difficulties, depression, and emotional lability.
Began Healing in November 2011 after starting acupuncture and Healing Touch (a nurturing energy therapy that promotes relaxation and pain relief). I went back to work in February 2012. Ive been symptom free since July 2012. Very happy, positive, energetic and working out every day, doing yoga, and living a normal life again!

I have Arterial/venous TOS. Pulsatile tinnitus has developed after an op to remove my right first rib. I think that the loud pulsing is there due to my blood flow probs that still remain on my left side that still needs treating.
Check out the Thoracic Outlet Syndrome forum, it may have some useful stuff on there for you all with the tinnitus.... good muscle relaxation techniques and stretches etc which may relieve tension in the neck/ear region.

I too have had this whooshing noise before...It stopped when I had my first LP shunt done...I have not heard it since; even when LP shunt stopped working; I still never heard the whooshing sound...I know they call it tinnitus..but it can be very annoying..

possibly a bruit?

I had it when my neck muscles were in spasms.
The muscles placed pressure on the arteries and made the whooshing sound in my head.
