I need to give you a little info before I begin; I teach kindergarten at an elementary school.
With that said, here we go....my week seemed almost "normal" compared to the previous weeks. I was experiencing stress headaches, which were much better than the constant throbbing ones, and except for the ringing in my ears, and a few other random issues I thought that things were getting better with the memory. The thoughts disappeared yesterday while I was going through the runoffs for next week and found that I had copied the papers, not once, not twice, but THREE times .Okay, twice would have been almost normal, but by the third set, something in my head should have said, "hmm, these look familiar lets check before I run them off." Nope, now I have 75 copies. I will put them away for the next couple of years, but I know I won't remember that I did them the previous year.

I am 53 and am dealing with PCS following a serious car accident on 12/8/11 . I am thankful that I am alive. My migraines are more infrequent now. Other symptoms include; confusion, memory loss, headaches, dizziness (only with the vise like headaches), foggy head, trouble concentrating, difficulty with word recall. |

I have had many of these same experiences. I have learned to use the experience to learn or develop work-arounds. First, I know I need to slow down.I also set up my tasks in a very visual format. If I need to work with multiple papers, I need to 3 hole punch them and put them in binders. I put a index in the front of the binder.
I know I can not rely on my memory. When I was trying to put together a Work Comp claim, I printed many pages too many times. By the time I was done, I had a binder full of the extra pages. This task is what taught me to establish work-around systems. In time, you will slowly learn how to prevent most of these "brain farts." Then, when they do happen, you can just have to laugh. I agree about putting them away for next year. That way you will find them the week after you printed out another set. LOL Hang in there. You will continue to learn new skills and things will get better. My best to you.

As you go along, you'll start to notice more and more flaws. I still discover new things that I struggle with after 7 months. This is completely normal...I'm happy for you that your able to still teach kindergarten. That is awesome...I can't wait to go back to work.
You will continue to get better. I'm happy for you that you can still handle the stress of work...that's a good sign. Your making good progress.

What happened: I was randomly assaulted from behind in June of 2011. I was knocked unconscious for an unknown amount of time (less than 30 minutes) and have no memory of the event. CT scan showed contusion and hematoma of the left frontal lobe. I spent 3 days in the hospital. Diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome in September 2011. Currently have Medicaid, Medicare and SSI. Current symptoms: Brain fog, mild memory issues, problems with spontaneity, occasional spacing out, word finding difficulties, tinnitus in right ear and some other things that I can't explain. Life after the brain injury: 4 years after the injury, I'm engaged to my beautiful girlfriend of 5 years, I'm the CEO of my own business, Notorious Labs, I've taught myself how to program complex games and apps which is a feat I never thought I'd accomplish and now live a semi-normal life with very mild PCS symptoms. Slowly but surely regaining my life back. |
