I have had ringing in my ears for the past 2 months. At times, however, it seems to be more than a ringing. I get a strange sensation that my ears are "full." Like they are full of cotton balls. This feeling doesn't affect hearing, but is very annoying and sometimes almost dull and achingly painful.
I have been extremely sensitive to any noise since the accident, but have been learning to deal with everyday noises. Multiple noises or loud noises make everything (including my headaches, confusion, and memory) worse. Anyone else have this happen? |

Ring in the ears is very common with the sensation changing from time to time. I think I understand your sensation of 'full of cotton,' too. I just attributed it to the tinnitus. Right now, I feel like I have my foam ear plugs in, but I don't. It is sort of like the feeling when you are in an airplane that is descending and the pressure is increasing.
The one thing I know about it is simple. The more you let it annoy you, the more your brain will focus on that symptom. So, it is best to try to ignore it. My best to you.

thank you! that makes sense. when it gets overwhelming I try to change what I am doing, location, or background noise -- so that I focus on something else.

Absolutley... I have severe noise (ringing) 24/7 a day. Also, it feels like a strong, painful motor that is running the noise. I am extremely sensitive to everything. Don't watch tv, listen to music. Things like the air conditioner kicking in is painful, microwave, washer/dryer, dogs nails walking on the floor. It took me over a year to figure out that ear plugs help me tolerate some things. At times, I wear them in the silence of my own house. You have to play with them to find what's best for you. Although, not a designers choice, I wear them around my neck at all times, so when I need them I have them. The problem is...at times, I'm not sure wheather I'm wearing them to keep the noise in or out? Hoopefully your's doesn't get worse. |

hybernating,
Yes! We heat with wood and every time the fan kicks on, I feel intense pain in my ears. I cover my ears with my hands, and fortunately my children respond with whispering or leaving a room. I'm glad to know that I am not the only one who is suddenly hyper-sensitive to noise. ![]() |

I have benn having ringing in my left ear for last 3 months or so. Also have feeling like water or something is clogging my left ear. Had hearing test done last week and my left ear has some hearing loss. My right ear hearing is normal. I have to go back and have some other test done on my left ear not sure what they called it. some eng or something like that. I have vertigo so i wonder if this is all related my inner ear and all.

I've had tinnitus since age 19, but it went away after a while. Came back after the TBI. For weeks, my left ear has felt plugged.
Could be earwax buildup- earplugs at night? TMJD affecting the ear (jaw problem). I'll try a Q-tip this weekend. If that doesn't help, wax removal kit. I really hope everyone's problems get solved somehow. Getting fed up with the human body. ![]() |
