Thats tough. I tried going back last year to nights about 3 months after my injury for 2 months and I got very very sick. My body basically shut down. When I got healthy, my doctor refused to let me return to working night shift. She would only approve day shift....and having worked night shift for 9 years, i never realized how much this would benefit me. I am so much healthier on a normal schedule and not fighting my body to stay awake in the middle of the night when it should be sleeping. My best advice is return part time if you can. Like 24 hours a week and during the day. 8 hour days would be ideal. Thats what i did. I work between 32-40 hours a week now and i love it. Never knew how much better i would feel on days. Good luck to you!!!

Suffered a TBI with PCS on April 25th 2011 from multiple blows to the head from falling, unconscious for 12 hours with no memory of event. Hit the back of my head, and above right eye. MRI and CT negative. Symptoms included constant headaches (migraine, pressure, tension, icepicks), dizziness, tinnitus, visual changes, photophobia, fatigue, "spacing out", word finding difficulties, depression, and emotional lability. Began Healing in November 2011 after starting acupuncture and Healing Touch (a nurturing energy therapy that promotes relaxation and pain relief). I went back to work in February 2012. Ive been symptom free since July 2012. Very happy, positive, energetic and working out every day, doing yoga, and living a normal life again! I also began taking Healing Touch classes in November 2011 and completed 5 Levels of Healing Touch Certificate Program that included a 1 year mentorship to become a Healing Touch International Practitioner in June 2013. I am so pleased to offer this wonderful healing therapy to my patients, friends, and clients. |

Nightnurse,
After today I'm really discouraged about returning. I had a huge panic attack around my return to work as I'm being forced into it. I'm not ready and my doctor agrees. Battling them while I'm supposed to be on bed rest isn't helping me at all

I received another friendly comment today while I was doing my daily morning walk. I was crossing the street at a healthy, relaxed clip (just about normal) and a woman in my neighborhood called out: "you're doing much better." When I stopped to chat with her, she said, "You're doing so much better. When I first saw you, I thought, that must have been so painful."
It's true - I am doing a lot better (and have been making gains of late). It's nice to receive external confirmation of this. |

Congrats, greenfrog.
It is indeed great to hear external confirmation of our gains/improvement over the long term. And it's great to hear of your continued improvement. Thanks for keeping us posted!

I can just imagine how hurt you were by that comment. Nothing like that here, just feeling walled off from the world. With a few blessed exceptions, friends and family aren't asking about Monty. I give them the benefit of the doubt due to their busy lives, no understanding of PCS/MTBI, and in the case of my very elderly parents, simple forgetfulness. In a warped sort of way I guess we should be happy to have no one accusing my husband of malingering!
