Default What job will be good for a career after a PCS and brain injury

I have PCS and a brain injury after I recover somewhat next year does anyone have any ideas what kind of career to choose. I have my grade 12 worked in construction for 6 years and did 5 years of security. I know I can't work in construction again or secuirty ( had 6-7 cocussions in my life ) I'm 29 years old married male with 5 kids one on the way. Any suggestions on a career I can work with a brain injury and provide for my family same time?

I want to work towards a goal my wife is 27 she wants to go back to school next year for university so I have to work once I feel better but I k ow I'll have brain injury symptoms for life. Just need advice one what kind of job I should pick not one that is shift work or travel or long hours or stressful.

Default Job after PCS

Unfortunately, I don't have any advice, but just wanted to say you are not alone. I am a teacher, currently working half days. I get re-evaluated in August to see if I can go back full-time. Half-time is sometimes too much for me in the classroom, so I have been thinking about other careers. No luck so far...

I currently run a small engineering company that I started up on my own (I design gun parts). I find it is the best way to work around my disabilities. I have worked big corporate jobs, and let's just say they didn't work out. Now I choose my own hours, and work as hard or as light as my condition warrants. It's still very hard, don't get me wrong, but at least I have a fighting chance.

I don't have any advice either, but I currently am working as a clerk of courts/Police Clerk in a small town. It is relatively calm, except for the court days, which are only every other week. (i just wear earplugs, i have long hair, no one knows)

Once I got around the first month of training,(mindbending!) I am doing relatively well since it is a very quiet town. It is not out on the street where I would like to be, but I am involved closely with the Police Department as well, so I get a taste.

Congratulations, Kenjee, on your company! That is wonderful.

Lattesrus, i hope your re-evaluation goes well for you; I give you kudos, I couldn't handle a classroom full of children!

Good luck to you Cjm028, I hope you find something that is right for your recovery and still satisfying.

I do think it's smart to avoid physical activity that could result in another head injury. Beyond that, I wouldn't cabin myself before one or two or three years are up. Why limit yourself that way? I personally cannot say I will be switching careers--I refuse to say that. I have to get better. Think positive, hope for the best.

I've been working in Information Technology for almost 15 years. Basically, I sit in front of a computer all day. And this is the biggest curse for me since the PCS is giving me bad headaches after using the computer. I was running out of hope a little while ago until I started doing vision therapy and discovered that there is always Botox for the headaches as a last resort. But if the vision therapy doesn't work and I try Botox and that doesn't work for whatever reason, then I'm probably going to throw in the towel and start my own non-computer related business. Steam clean carpets or something.

Drifting, you might need to take a temporary break from computers to heal, and then you may be able to go back to your job in IT. Don't lose hope. But resting your brain may be the first step. I've found reducing my computer time has helped my symptoms somewhat. I hope that they will go away and I can return to my normal computer-based activities.

I too fear for a future career. I spent the last 30+ years in IT - and of all things tripped over a power lead that someone had stretched between desks and now suffer constant headaches and joint pain. Since even following a conversation is difficult and simple maths ( 4 * 8) impossible, I doubt I will ever work in IT ever again.

So I don't know what I will do in the future
