Default Topomax Side effects

I was prescribed topomax to combat my migraines along with with another medicine to help with when I have immediate migraines immediately. It just seems that the topomax makes me feel wonky , I can't explain it. I had mentioned this to the neurologist and she said I needed to remain on topomax and that I would level out. It does seem to have lessened the intensity of the migraines but they have not went totally away. Has this been anyone else's experience also ?

Thanks

I hated being on Topamax; it increased my dizziness and light headedness drastically, gave me stomach problems, brain fog; yes, it helped with the headaches some, but not nearly enough to deal with the side effects. Oh, and it made my face itch badly. I also tried to explain this to my neuro but he refused to change meds, in fact canceled an appointment to wait for a neuropsych eval so I was on the stuff for 3 months w/o a visit to discuss.

Everybody reacts to meds differently, some people here had great responses to Topamax and loved it. But I for one could not stand it, the side effects were terrible. Interestingly, I had similar but not nearly as bad side effect issues with Depakote; both medicines messed up my stomach and added to the brain fog or dizziness, but at least the Depakote helped significantly with headaches.

My doc and I were discussing Topamax vs Amitriptyline for my headaches/migraines and decided on Amitriptyline becuase he said the Topamax has quite a few potential side effects with confusion being one of them.

I just went off Propranalol due to the side effects and it did seem to control the migraines, but left me pretty much unable to function with extreme fatigue and other issues.

I know all drugs have potential side effects, but for those of us that are very sensitive to medicines, every one counts.

I suffered a lot of gnarly side effects while I was on Topomax - I think I took it for several weeks before I finally figured out and decided that I needed to get off of it. Some of the side effects were an increase in confusion and a decrease in my speaking ability. It was over a year ago that I took it so I can't quite remember all of them or the real details. Despite that, I distinctly remember that the side effects made me extremely anxious and after it was finally out of my system I had a sense of relief and less stress to deal with on a moment by moment basis.

In short I feel confused a lot more and I don't seem to have as high a level of coordination on the stuff. I have a hard time walking anyway since my accident and have balance issues and will lose my balance without notice at times. The topomax seems to aggravate the problem.

It has a lot of potential side effects, many of which are also PCS symptoms! Definitely talk to your Dr. about it.
