Default How do I talk to Dr?

Since I suspect that my husband has TBI or PCS...how do I bring this up to my doctor without them taking offense?

When I have told Drs that I have been researching things on the web...they tell me "DON'T".

Sometimes it's best to say a friend mentioned something about x condition - drs are less threatened by that than the mention of internet research...

carly,

As Jo*Mar said, you need to be careful when suggesting diagnosis. Commenting about online research versus the comments of friends who have experience with PCS/TBI can make a big difference. Doctors hate cyberchondriacs who diagnose from the internet.

Have you noticed your husband having any difficulties when he sleeps? Many with mTBI injuries develop problems with sleep apnea. Sleep apnea can make PCS symptoms magnify to extreme levels.

He may wake up gasping or suddenly start breathing very heavily. Being sleepy during the day can be a sign or sleep apnea. Most doctors only consider Obstructive Sleep Apnea but Central Sleep Apnea can be a problem with mTBI subjects. Inflammation in the upper neck can cause the autonomic nervous system to stop the diaphragm from pulling breaths. Sometimes, the inflammation is sporadic and due to neck position or occasional neck trauma. A common chiro can often over-look or even contribute to such a problem.

I posted some comments on your other thread too.

My best to you.

Default My Dr

I have 2 doctors. The one I really like has been so supportive of my TBI since the incident (April2012) including telling off my employer for hassling me. She has gone on a vacation and I have no choice to see my other doctor in her place and he's so old fashioned he thinks everyone could just shake off their symptoms regardless of what they are.

I made an appt for Monday because I have a return to work meeting with my employer for a date of July 16th. I'm worried he's gonna tell me to return to full duty despite the fact I've written out 2 pages full of symptoms.

I have read many posts here and I've noticed most of you have a neuro specialist ~ I don't. Some are on meds for pain ~ I'm not.

Sometimes I wish I don't wake up because of the pain is so crippling. My employer says because I wasn't deemed disabled there is no reason for me not to return. But isn't PCS included as a form of being disabled?

Question: Does anyone have really messed up dreams?
