Every anti-seizure medication that I've tried so far has negatively effected my cognition. They've all made me extremely foggy and unable to speak legibly. Gabapentin didn't but it made me wake up feeling lost and confused.
Next on the list...LAMICTAL!!! Has anyone tried this?

What happened: I was randomly assaulted from behind in June of 2011. I was knocked unconscious for an unknown amount of time (less than 30 minutes) and have no memory of the event. CT scan showed contusion and hematoma of the left frontal lobe. I spent 3 days in the hospital. Diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome in September 2011. Currently have Medicaid, Medicare and SSI. Current symptoms: Brain fog, mild memory issues, problems with spontaneity, occasional spacing out, word finding difficulties, tinnitus in right ear and some other things that I can't explain. Life after the brain injury: 4 years after the injury, I'm engaged to my beautiful girlfriend of 5 years, I'm the CEO of my own business, Notorious Labs, I've taught myself how to program complex games and apps which is a feat I never thought I'd accomplish and now live a semi-normal life with very mild PCS symptoms. Slowly but surely regaining my life back. |

I am supposed to be going on Lamictal too, as soon as my regular doc gets back in town. I know someone who is on it and he says the side effects are minimal. Please let us know how it works for you. I will do the same. I am on seroquil, they put me on it to get me to calm down fast but I am super foggy and complacent on it.

I'm currently not on any meds at all and I think I should be.
I was assaulted also. 3 months ago and suffering with debilitating symptoms. I see my GP today and I'm gonna ask for something since I'm only taking Tylenol and it really doesn't work. My employer wants me back but I don't think I'm ready yet especially with no treatment as of yet. Good luck to you, Kelly |

So, Space Cadet, I learned that it will take 6 weeks to get up to full speed on Lamictal today. I will take my first pill tonight and because I am on Depakoke, will take another pill Wednesday for two weeks then 50 mgs and so on. The only precaution my Doc told me about was BOLO for rashes, because these rashes are no ordinary rashes like chunks of skin could come off....doesn't sound like something I want to see. Hopes this provides a little insight.

Thank you guys for the response.
I'm being a chicken **** right now and holding off on trying the Lamictal. I've had anti-seizure meds in the past mess my entire cognition up for days. I used to take Gabapentin with no problems and now when I take it, I wake up disoriented...not knowing who I am, where I am, what I was doing before I went to sleep, etc...It was scary. I've had such a horrible experience with anti-seizures meds. Anyhow, I think I'm gonna start tomorrow. I'll let you know how it made me feel. If you don't hear from me for a couple days...You can send a search party lol. Nick

I've had it with medication. I think from now on I'm only going to take my blood pressure med and that's it. Every other medication I've tried to make me feel better has negatively impacted my cognition.
This stuff really messed me up. It happened almost immediately after taking it. My son fell and busted his head open and I just stared at him while it happened. No more meds for me..I'm done...I can do without watching TV.
