Default Gotta love Workmans Comp....NOT!

So i got a registered letter today. It states they the worker from SAIF which is the insurance carrier for workman's comp tried to call and notify me of an appt to a neuropsychologist. A lie. I have the numbers stored in the phone. No calls came through.

So i am guessing this appt, which is apparently set up for August 20th at 8:30 in the morning with the Dr of their choice to determine whether or not i still need continued care, is for a neuropsych exam. I have been on the fence about getting one anyway. But i wanted it to be on my own terms.

I have had one done before a few years back so i have a base line. But i know that ultimately i will need to pursue a settlement and i am really freaking out here now that i am faced with this. I don't yet have an attorney because this is all so daunting. especially with a head injury. My attention span isn't long enough to find an attorney, and my anxiety level is so high about it all that i start researching stuff and i just start shaking and shut down.

Jen
injury 1/04/12 assaulted at work. lifted off feet by throat, head bashed against wall 3 times. PCS with Chronic headaches, vision disturbances, dizziness, cognitive issues, memory issues, sound sensitivity etc. Processing time is very very slow. I am NOT myself at all. currently seeing workman's comp physicians which include occupational medicine and Neurology. Just got a registered letter stating i have an IME for a neuropsychologist.

OMG its like we're twins!

I get anxiety attacks every Wed coz WSIB makes me call my employer to touch base. Today, she says she doesn't understand why I cant just come in for 2 hrs.....duh coz I have panic attacks at the site of the building.

WSIB is also trying to make me do the 2 hrs and they want me to go to Toronto to see their docs. So I can totally relate.

My thoughts and prayers r with u

Kelly

jen,

If for some reason you have not found an attorney before your neuropsych, keep one thing in mind,

Do not volunteer and information. Answer the questions asked and nothing more. It is amazing how a NP can use your volunteered words against you.

Otherwise, find a WC attorney who has good experience with mTBI.

www.tbilaw.com and www.subtlebraininjury.com have good information for you to consider. If you have a friend or family member to read these web sites, it will be a big help. Any WC attorney should be familiar with the ideas on these web sites.

I wish you the best with your assessment.

btw, The office worker who supposedly tried to call you likely did not because they were going to send the registered letter anyway. The registered letter is required by WC statute. Don't be intimidated by it.

Default Very good advice Mark

In the state I live in it is all adversarial. Empolyer versus employee. It is also an all or nothing disability. B4 my injury I was very ignorant of all this. Now if you get seriously hurt at work get a lawyer right away.

Don't worry about money most states have limits set and most injuries are already have precedence. The lawyers fee is part of the settement. This includes PCS and mTBI.

Hope everything works out for you.
