Hi, i'm new to this site. On july 5th 2012, my husband and I were in motorcycle accident. We were going 40mph oy when a straight away when a van turned from the oppitsite lane directly into our path. We both flew over the van. My husband walked away with bruises and scratches. I was in the hospital for 4 days with mtbi, concussion, whip lash and a left broken shoulder blade. 6 weeks later, they found I also have a fracture in my right shoulder and 50% of the rotator cuff is partially torn. I ended up admitted again a few days ago because of a relapse of post concussion syndrome. Dizzyness, double vision, unsteady gait, loss of sensaation in my hands, my left leg gives out randomly, buzzing in my ears, dark spots in my vison, vommiting so im home bound and useless.. I cant lift more than 2lbs, my brain is mush and im getting very down. i want my life back. i didnt think id go thew stages where i pretty much regress to day one. Meanwhie, all the van driver got was a $175 filure to yeild ticket and a dent in thier door. my kids and husband have been so paitent and helful but all i feel is guilt. i want my life ack and i want my marriage back. I mean its great but its different cuz my sickness is alwys lingering. Will today be a good day or a bad day? will bad momemnts sneak in on the good days? I'm only 30. and i despise most of my doctors. sorry needed to vent. I need a friend who gets it.

Even though my post-concussion syndrome isn't as bad as yours I know what you are going through. I have had my concussion since December of '11 and I still have 24/7 headaches today. I think that you can just try and get through everyday with a smile or a laugh here and there. I know other people without head injuries say that and that makes me and maybe you grumpier. But everyone says that having a positive attitude helps and even though it doesn't seem like it, it does in the future. Good luck and get better soon!

So sorry to hear of yours and your husbands accident. I get it!!! Get quiet rest is what is needed. Severly limit TV, computer and other overstimulation. Search out the best doctors you can find.
I also ride, but not for the last two and a half months. Frustrating when a cager does not pay attention. I am super vigilant when I ride as others often are not. Be patient and kind to yourself this is not like a cut or bruise and will take longer. Check out the helpful links at the top of the forum.

lah0816,
Welcome to NeuroTalk. Sorry to hear of your injuries. You are fortunate to be alive. There are some resources for you to check out that can help you and your family. The YouTube video series at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9Xso...ature=youtu.be is fabulous. There is also the TBI Survival Guide at www.tbiguide.com You can download and print it out, 84 pages. You should have your husband check out the information at www.tbilaw.com and www.subtlebraininjury.com . It will be a big help as you pursue litigation for your injuries. I am sorry to say this but it sounds like you have a long road ahead. You need to find any resources you can. You need an attorney with expert skills in mild brain injury. Most attorneys do not understand how to represent those with less obvious but no less debilitating brain injuries. Your family need ti understand how to work with you rather than in conflict. A low stress household will help your recovery. Let us know how we can help. btw, I have many TBI friends who have had motorcycle accidents. The trauma can be extreme. My best to you and your family.

Do what you can handle as time moves on. You can also periodically gauge yourself to determine your limits.

Hello, I hope today is a good day for you. I too have PCS and my PCP has not been much of a help. I drive for a living, and myself as well have good days and bad days. I thought I was out of the woods, wrong I had symptons like it was the first day of my injury. It has been close to 2 months and I have speech problems, forgetting simple things.
And I'm having all of your symptons except vomiting. I almost burned up my kitchen. Due to the fact i forgot that I was cooking. If you have no exerience with PCS people don't get what you are feeling. I'm going to look for a support group in my city. I really need to understand more of what's going on. But rest and time is the only treatment along with your medication if you are taking any. Again I hope you feel better. |
