For the past 5 months I've been intermittently seeing flashes of light in my peripheral vision, as if somebody has just taken a flash photo of me or there was a sheet lightning storm. It's very confusing because I don't realise it's not actually there until I see there's no camera and it's not stormy, can't hear fireworks etc.
Lately it's become quite bad and I usually get a headache and feel disorientated afterwards. Is this something I should be concerned about or is it eye strain / something that will go away? I'm afraid to go to the doctor again unless it's absolutely necessary. Or is this something I would be better off seeing an optometrist about, if it doesn't go away? |

Hello andromeda,
I used to have this when my brain was overtired and the migrane headache would be bad. I would expect this if I was reading too much, etc. I have not had this for a while ![]() The old post: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...lashing+lights |

Visual disturbances are common with PCS. If nothing else give your nuerologist a ring and ask that it is noted in your records. Luckily for me I sometimes think I see something at the edge of my vision but it does not fit any description I read about. Kinda like I am seeing something move but when I look there is nothing there. Hope you are feeling OK today.
Have not been online much as I have had several bad days. ![]()

I went through a stage in my recovery where I experienced these visual disturbances. They've either gone away or I just don't notice them anymore. I don't think you have too much to worry about. It IS a common symptom of head injury and i've seen many people, including myself, post about them before. You should mention this to your doctor so they could make note of it.
Hopefully, like mine, they will pass and you won't be bothered by them anymore. Good luck. Nick

What happened: I was randomly assaulted from behind in June of 2011. I was knocked unconscious for an unknown amount of time (less than 30 minutes) and have no memory of the event. CT scan showed contusion and hematoma of the left frontal lobe. I spent 3 days in the hospital. Diagnosed with Post-Concussion Syndrome in September 2011. Currently have Medicaid, Medicare and SSI. Current symptoms: Brain fog, mild memory issues, problems with spontaneity, occasional spacing out, word finding difficulties, tinnitus in right ear and some other things that I can't explain. Life after the brain injury: 4 years after the injury, I'm engaged to my beautiful girlfriend of 5 years, I'm the CEO of my own business, Notorious Labs, I've taught myself how to program complex games and apps which is a feat I never thought I'd accomplish and now live a semi-normal life with very mild PCS symptoms. Slowly but surely regaining my life back. |

Ive had the same flashes since Febuary. They are by far my most annoying and worst symptom. They havent went away and sre 24/7. My eye doctors have no idea what it is. I think only time will heal it hopefully.

Thanks everyone. I've felt really crap this week, have slept away much of it and tinnitus is getting louder again with a couple of those flashes.
I've had to take all the batteries out of the clocks because the tick tock drives me insane. It's like the tick and the tock match the pulsating in my head. I keep getting confused with the meaning of statements like: What's not to like? I cannot / I can't not I don't doubt A couple of days ago I kept trying to find the past tense for 'steal'.... I was trying to say it to somebody and came out with 'stealed' 'stealt' 'stealded' before somebody corrected me, which was embarrassing. I keep having to look things up in the dictionary for their meanings now because I can't remember how to use that word. I must have overdone it at some point last week. All I want to do now is sleep. |
