I have, but not from my head injury. It's pretty annoying, I could do without another three-letter acronym that noone's heard of

Luckily I don't get headaches from it or anything, it just causes problems eating. I've seen a few docs about it if you have any questions?

absolutely.... i refuse to eat food that takes excessive chewing because after a lil bit my jaw will click every single time i take a bite... last year my jaw locked up on me for almost 2 months, it started where i could barely fit a single finger between my teeth without excruciating pain, then slowly it got better over the 2 months... to make it worse i had a dentist appointment when i could barely fit 2 fingers between teeth it was definitely a 'FML' day, luckily my dentist was nice and spent the extra time looking instead of just yanking my jaw open lol... if you see a chiropractor they can fix it for you (temporarily) at least, my old NUCCA chiro did, he also showed my (ex) bf how to fix it for me so if it's really bothersome might want to check into that

My daughter has had success using an osteopath and acupuncture for her TMJ. This was recommended by a neurologist. (If this is your first visit to an osteopath, then expect to feel a little out of it for a few hours after your appointment.) She found that the acupuncture relieved the pain the most.

Hope this helps.

Default Jaw/TMJ help

my neurologist sent me to a special dentist to deal with jaw issues/tmj. During my accident, my jaw was pushed out of alignment and somehow all this triggered tmj and night grinding. The dentist created this orthodontic device to re-align my jaw that I wear at night-it is now a typical tmj mouth gaurd. This process has significantly reduce my face pain. The guy I went to was Yahav in Chicago. I get a feeling that this is a speciality and most dentists don't do it so it is worth checking around.

I had severe TMJ problems early on. I had the locked up jaw like Kristara mentioned.

Two things helped.
Neurontin (gabapentin) reduces my jaw clenching, especially during sleep.
My PT has been able to do some myofacial release to allow my jaw to relax and move back into place.
I have seen two TMJ dentists with little help. It is not possible to get the appliance into a locked up jaw. When I could get the appliance in, I could not stand it, let alone sleep. It caused a gag reflex.

There is a Botox procedure where they inject Botox into the TMJ muscle to weaken it temporarily so the jaw relaxes and can get settled. I have a bump on my lower jaw line where the tendons of the TMJ muscle inserts into the lower jaw. This bump is caused by the stress from clenching. If you have this, it is evidence of the damage the clenching is causing.

It is difficult to get insurance coverage for TMJ unless you can directly connect it to an injury.

Hope this helps.

My best to all you other jaw clenchers.

Default TMJ issues...

I have an appt to see if this is TMJ - I sufferred whiplash in my accident and am wondering if that is an underlying cause for the changes i have noticed. I have jaw pain but it is intermittent and can be a few times a week to a few times in a month. I started noticing my bottom teeth begininng to show a small gap and my dentist pointed me in the direction of getting it looked at.

Since I still suffer from headaches - I am curious if there could be a connection.

Lightbulb Tmj/tmd

I am happy to see other people can relate...I thought I was the only one.

**I as well had my left side jaw that popped after accident....I then went to dentist to get dental work done 6months from accident and after that day I was in severe pain, could not talk, jaw was locked and swayed, bed rest for 3months, steroids for whole head swelled up, baby food diet, I could only open my mouth to a 2cm, I was only mobil for 2hrs a day then moved to 4hrs etc....

~I had went to a TMJ doctor after I went and got dental work done....he had tried to manipulate the muscles and numb them to put finger in mouth to try to pop jaw back....no luck....The TMJ doctor started the steroids and said he was not able because too much inflammation....

~And he was not doing anything else till I seen a neurologist~This all happened on my road of finding out what was my diagnosis*

My jaw went back to popping~My speech has got a lot better~But I need to get a root canal ASAP I am scared and been avoiding it...now I figure I should do it soon while I am on "get better vacation" I need to ask neurologist again what I should do with this condition.....

~I AGREE TBI/PCS is VERY COMPLEX~
