My first concussion was a little over four years ago while playing basketball. I kept going back too soon experiencing headaches and hitting my head so I saw a doctor about it. He said my reflexes were off and that I was experiencing post concussion syndrome. He sat me out for a month and then I retuned to play.
I continued playing through little headaches. Some of the things I've experienced, I have realized were probably from the concussions because I just received another one last week. Emotionally, I feel like I can't feel anything. The things that made me very happy don't feel any different from those things that make me feel sad. It's all just one big emotion, not sad or happy. I don't understand. I want those feelings back. I feel like I am losing my connection with my partner over it. Anyone else ever feel like this? How'd you cope with it? Sorry, it's hard to explain how I feel and to explain what's going on. |

I think I have gone through something similar...hard to put a finger on it. An emotional emptiness, or silence in the mind where before there was lots of activity. I think like all other aspects of brain injury, rebuilding the pathways is important. I am feeling more emotionally as I heal. I hope you feel better soon!

What happened: Legs pulled forward by a parent's hockey stick while resting at the side of the rink at a family skate....sent me straight back. I hit the back of my head (with helmet) on the ice, bounced a few times, unconscious for a few minutes. September 11, 2011. Off work since then…I work part-time at home when I can. It has been hell but slowly feeling better (when I am alone☺). Current symptoms: Vision problems (but 20/20 in each eye alone!) – convergence insufficiency – horizontal and vertical (heterophoria), problems with tracking and saccades, peripheral vision problems, eyes see different colour tints; tinnitus 24/7 both ears; hyperacusis (noise filter gone!), labyrinthian (inner ear) concussion, vestibular dysfunction (dizzy, bedspins, need to look down when walking); partial loss of sense of smell; electric shocks through head when doing too much; headaches; emotional lability; memory blanks; difficulty concentrating. I still can’t go into busy, noisy places. Fatigue. Executive functioning was affected – multi-tasking, planning, motivation. Slight aphasia. Shooting pain up neck and limited mobility at neck. Otherwise lucky! Current treatments: Vestibular therapy, Vision therapy, amantadine (100 mg a day), acupuncture and physiotherapy for neck, slow return to exercise, magnesium, resveratrol, omega 3 fish oils, vitamins D, B and multi. Optimism and perserverance. |

Bball,
Welcome to NeuroTalk. The symptoms you explain are common with PCS. What are doing to help your brain recover? You need quiet rest and nutritional support for your injured brain. Check my thread Vitamin and Supplement Regimen. It explains what food to not eat and how to help your brain heal. It is a slow process and takes discipline. My best to you.

For recovery, I've cut out all workouts and try to rest between work and driving to see my girlfriend. Most days my headaches aren't bad enough to keep m rom work. I know I need more time in my dark, quiet bedroom but I have to pay the bills somehow.
I also have seemed to develop a stutter once in a while and cant say the name of the town I've grown up in for 24 years when I answer the phone at work. |

Check out the online resources at the bottom of the Vitamin post. Share them with your girlfriend. She needs to understand these issues.
What kind of work do you do? How old are you?

I am 24 and work in retail. I dust and work the cash registers. Once in a while I have to lift 40 lbs but I am trying to stay away from lifting anything at the moment.
