I suffered two concussions last year, but it never seemed to go away. After research on WebMD and other websites (before I found this one), I diagnosed myself with the syndrome. Do general doctors make these kinds of decisions? Or is it a self-evaluation like I did?

My experience is that you need to see a neurologist for proper testing and diagnosis.

Hi and welcome to NeuroTalk. PCS is problematic for doctors to diagnose medically since mTBI will often not show up on a CT or MRI. I agree with Shez, a neurologist would be best; I'd inquire whether they do a lot with work with mTBI patients, as there has been varying degrees of satisfaction from NT members in regards to diagnosis and treatment from neurologists.

Tell us a little bit more on which symptoms are presenting, and we can better support your question based on the collective experiences of the forum contributors.

I went undiagnosed for years. I was going to a pain specialist for years for chronic pain and migraine headaches. I kept mentioning these other problems and the fact that I had passed out and hit my head and have had at least 5 concussions before being in the MVA that disabled me totally. It was not until I went to a neurologist / movement disorder specialist that I got a full diagnosis.
Yes I have chronic pain but it is presenting in my body in this way because of the traumatic brain injury / post concussive syndrome. I am in the middle of having neuropsychological testing done which should give me more information and help on what kind of treatment would be beneficial to me at this point. I also had an MRI recently which does show some problems. I understand that the MRI does not always show any problems. I would definately go to a neurologist.
These are neurological symptoms that we have and that is the kind of specialist diagnoses the problem.
