I am in Minnesota and am looking for good advice for doctors, support groups therapists etc.
I slipped and fell five months ago and am suffering from lots of pcs symptoms. It is a workers comp case and up until about a month ago I was getting little to no care. I started going to the national dizzy and balance center a few weeks ago. They detected central nervous deficits. I am also going to noran neurology and I am scheduled for a neuro psych test late April.

I saw some good people at the Hennepin Hospital Brain Trauma Centre in MSP. They have a multi-disciplinary approach.
One of the best doctors I have ever seen is Dr Marian Rubenfeld who is a neuro-opthamologist and a PhD. She works out of a few clinics in Minneapolis and area. Phillips eye care centre is one. She is brilliant.

What happened: Legs pulled forward by a parent's hockey stick while resting at the side of the rink at a family skate....sent me straight back. I hit the back of my head (with helmet) on the ice, bounced a few times, unconscious for a few minutes. September 11, 2011. Off work since then…I work part-time at home when I can. It has been hell but slowly feeling better (when I am alone☺).

Current symptoms: Vision problems (but 20/20 in each eye alone!) – convergence insufficiency – horizontal and vertical (heterophoria), problems with tracking and saccades, peripheral vision problems, eyes see different colour tints; tinnitus 24/7 both ears; hyperacusis (noise filter gone!), labyrinthian (inner ear) concussion, vestibular dysfunction (dizzy, bedspins, need to look down when walking); partial loss of sense of smell; electric shocks through head when doing too much; headaches; emotional lability; memory blanks; difficulty concentrating. I still can’t go into busy, noisy places. Fatigue. Executive functioning was affected – multi-tasking, planning, motivation. Slight aphasia. Shooting pain up neck and limited mobility at neck. Otherwise lucky!

Current treatments: Vestibular therapy, Vision therapy, amantadine (100 mg a day), acupuncture and physiotherapy for neck, slow return to exercise, magnesium, resveratrol, omega 3 fish oils, vitamins D, B and multi. Optimism and perserverance.

Hennepin County Medical Center:

I don't know any specifics about the Courage Center or Hennepin Cty Medical Center. I also know that there are a couple of places I'm forgetting about. Do some google searches and see what else you find; the medical care in this area is some of the best in the world.

Default Mn

I know we have great medical resources here in mn. After the accident I felt too crappy to be an advocate for myself.
And when I finally got clearance for an appointment with a neurologist, the doctor cancelled the appointment stating he would not see workers comp cases. And now it is still very difficult to get a dr visit approved so I want to make sure I choose wisely.

I have found the Neuropsychological testing to be a very good move. I would do that if you can. It will be helpful to me with my disability claim. I assume it would be helpful for workers comp claim and disability if needed. Good luck. I can tell by your posts that you are suffering severely.

Su,

Do you have an attorney helping you ?

You are better getting no treatment/diagnostics than getting the wrong diagnostics and treatment.

Have you checked out the information at www.tbilaw.com and www.subtlebraininjury.com ?

There is good information about finding the right professional to help you and the risks about the wrong professional messing up your case.
