My son is on SDI, but it is a "slam dunk" for a Severe TBI, approval on first attempt. Probably mild and moderate have to put up a fight. Studying the Social Security Disability forum up in the General section helped a LOT with the tedious application and expectation of results / procedures. Best Wishes and Best Luck! |

I have been on SSDI for 5 or 6 years. I was approved for the behavioral issues that come with PCS. The occupational psychologist read my NPA and determined that I would not tolerate a work environment very well. It took me 3 years to get approved but I found out that the first application was messed up and I should have been approved in the first round.
The SSDI Blue Book lists the many qualifying limitations. Don't just look at neuro issues, check the mental health and other issues, too.

Did you have to take a memory test for SSDI? Besides the neuropsyc test that was done without them?

There are a variety of memory tests. The simplest is the MMSE, Mini-Mental Status Exam. It is done by neuros, psychs, and even PCP's.
SSDI had their psychologist do it as part of his evaluation.

Don't let the names throw you. There are various agencies and councils that specialize in areas that means they have better services. As I have said, I have a 85 year old brain in a 50+ body. Fortunately, my condition is stable. Most of us can expect to be stable until we find ways to help our brains heal.

I am on SSDI.
I applied in October of 2012, and was approved February, 2013 - with a disability date of 29 April 2012 - the week the employer terminated me, for my Concussion/PCS/mTBI and issues evolved from the injury of June 2010, after I spent almost 2 + years working thru issues and working on FMLA, and forgot to meet a deadline filing for the third year. I was approved on Cognitive issues and Depression. Still have them and others. Doc, just increased my meds for the Headaches that are daily, and we'll see how that does. Talk later, Best of Luck.

. Current: Changes of more insomnia, new reviews with findings of more Depression, tremors, vertigo, tinnitus, loss of focus, fatigue; SSDI - accepted on Depression, Cognitive Deficits; Seizures ruled out, mTBI changes including cognitive slowing/lapses. Medication update: Topamax 200mg twice daily it seems to minimize daily headaches to a 1-2/10 quality(I still know they are there); and acute headaches erupt without warnings. |

MVA 4/13/2010. Applied for disability 6/15/2011. Approved for SSDI & SSI 08/29/2011.
Approved based on cognitive issues from mild TBI. No test required by Social Security. The medical records and results of neuropsychological test were sufficient evidence of disability.
