When you do your neurpsyc test and the findings are "impairments". Is this brain damage? I figured it is damage that is not 100% fixable but can get better with cognitive therapy. Am I correct? I need honest answer's. Please and Thank you.

I wouldn't get too concerned about the terminology of "brain damage". Term I've heard a lot is "neuro plasticity", which refers to changes in neural pathways and synapses, including those resulting from brain injury. This basically means the brain has the ability to rewire and heal itself.
I had a NPA about two months after my accident. It said in part: "Patient shows significant difficulties with visuospatial learning and recall, as well as mental flexibility and multitasking. He displays weakness in executive system functioning (retrieval of learned information, mental flexibility, abstract reasoning, problem solving, verbal fluency)" After three additonal months of therapy, and second NPA reported: “On examination, the patient demonstrated intact cognition in all domains assessed including learning and memory, attention, processing speed, language skills and executive functions. He has shown an excellent recovery from his severe injury only five months age. From a cognitive standpoint there are no concerns with respect to the patient returning to work full time or returning to driving.” The honest answer is every brain injury is different and they heal differently. I consider my recovery miraculous but not unique. I look forward to hearing your full recovery story posted here soon. The very best to you. ![]()

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition. Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life. Last edited by Lightrail11; 04-08-2013 at 01:48 PM. |

You are going to recover. Impairment can be improved upon. Look at Lightrail. First neuropsych evaluation showed impairment and the second one showed complete improvement. You are getting better. You will continue to have more improvement. You are doing great. Keep up the good work.

Brain patch. . Had MVA in 2006 resulting in post concussive syndrome manifested by cognitive impairment, chronic pain/ fatigue. Chronic pain of head, neck, back, left leg. Other problems include REM sleep behavior disorder, nocturnal frontal lobe epilepsy, chronic migraines associated with nausea/vertigo, episodes of passing out, hypoglycemia, liver dysfunction (had accidental overdose of acetaminophen in 2009) had liver and kidney failure, hernia, degenerative disc disease with compression of nerve root, PTSD, and other problems associated with functioning problems from traumatic brain injury (light, sound sensitive, easily overloaded, easily distracted, cannot focus, anxiety problems etc.) |

I appreciate the feedback greatly.I just like to ask people that are on the same page as me
![]() I know me, myself, and I will get better. I already have shown improvments within myself. I am way past the worries stage. I am learning and progressing in positive forward state of PCS. ![]() ~I ask the vet's of PCS that are in rehabilitation stage, that I am in as well that know~This post hopefully give's the newbie's inspiration to Survival and we DO GET BETTER ![]() I have a story, like we all do as survivors of PCS. I have followed some of the other's stories and know that some other's have followed my story. That is a GREAT REASON for this support group ![]() ~P.S.~Check out my improvement in grammar ![]()
