Im only 23 and since my concussion 2 and a half months ago, i have been dizzy and imbalanced every single hour of every single day. I dont have anymore symptoms besides dizziness, but it feels like it just doesnt get better. I am scared this will last for the rest of my life, and i wont be able to have a job, socialize, have fun, or do anything anymore. Does it get better or will i be bed ridden forever

The dizziness does get better but it does take time.
The other issue is to isolate or determine what the dizziness is from. There is therapy out there that can address those issues ie. vestibular. You may need to get some more clarification and advice from professionals. I deal with an occupational therapist who is amazing at figuring out what things are caused by. The key to my issues right now is post traumatic vision syndrome and vision mid line sift syndrome. It took me almost a year for someone to figure that out, but now I know I can address these problems. I know it is really difficult but you have to relax and not get stressed (this makes things worse) and try taking things one day at a time. Find someone who can help you put this in to perspective, if you give a list of what you are doing now I am sure others will have further suggestions. I had dizziness too and the neurologist referred me to vestibular therapy. You might benefit from it too. Can you ask your neurologist or medical doc?

[SIZE="1"]What happened. I was in a car accident 2-23-2013, and got a mild concussion from it. I had some time off for brain rest, got somewhat better, but slipped into PCS in March 2013. Symptoms I had: dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, fatigue, tinitis, occasional headaches and migraines, Symptoms as of 5--2013: poor sleep, tinitis, some confusion /short term memory blanks, balance. The other symptoms are mostly gone, but flare up if I OVERdo something. Therapy I had: vestibular 3 months in: I could drive more and for longer distances. I felt like a younger, happier version of myself and I feel so blessed to have this feeling. 9 months in and I am working full time. I do get tired, and some sound and light sensitivity from time to time, but mostly I am over most of my symptoms. I pray every day and I m praying for your recovery. Over a year in: I can multi task (limited) and have humor in my life. But when I am tired, I am very tired. |

I am in my late 20's and let me tell you...your life is not over it is just on a hold...yes it sux but in time you will get to see improvements.You might not want to put any toxins in your body for the rest of your life, but you can show a lot of improvements! The whole thing about this is TIME for healing. The balance issues you need to get your vestibular checked. Do you have insurance?
I am sorry I have not been on in awhile because I am trying college again because I have improved. I do not know your story. But I do know in time you will see improvements. You might have to isolate yourself for awhile but it is worth getting better. (((You are not alone))) ![]()

What Happened: In 2011 I was in a MVA . Symptoms: Physical: I am always cold in any season!!I cannot tolerate anything pressure on my head(sun glasses,hats)longer then a hour,Lock jaw/Displaced TMJ, Dropsey, Hands go numb, Arms go numb, back of head numb (when asleep),Muscle spasms in face & upper body,migraines, concentration headaches, dizziness, nausea, neck and back trauma (from accident), tinnitus, extreme light sensitivity, noise sensitivity, EXTREME fatigue, impaired vestibular system, balance off, Pupils NEVER equal, disrupted sleep cycles,speech problems. Cognitive: Cognitive Behavior, Brain fog, impulsivity, speech problems, word finding problems, slowed processing speeds, impaired visual memory, impaired complex attention Emotional: Unable to handle stress or overstimulation without getting extremely irritable or angry, easily overstimulated, MAJOR depression, major anxiety, Panic attacks Treatment so far: Treatment for PCS,PTSD,Depression & panic,Vestibular therapy, Physical therapy, Vitamin Schedule,Walking,No Dairy, No eggs, No caffeine, No artificial coloring, Sleep with 2 pillows, Very little sugars consumed, Eat healthy,No alcohol, Medications, limit stress and overstimulation. ~*~Learn to treasure yourself and your Divinity. Ask the ENT's office to refer you to a vestibular specialist. Many hearing clinics have balance clinics, too. Look up hearing or hearing aids in the phone book and check to see which clinics offer balance services.

Symptoms can improve, though it can take a lot of time (I've been battling some symptoms for 37 years). Some have improved, but that is not an illness, that's a career.
Dizziness is one of my second-tier symptoms, but I do have problems with it from time to time. Let me ask you this, have you tried regular OTC anti-histamines? I discovered this trick while in an emergency room with one of my migraines. I may have to go 50% over the recommended adult dose, but it does seem to do the trick (always consult your physician). What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition. Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life. |

You will get better, every concussion is different, so you cannot put a timescale on it. It took me 9 months, but I am now better.

PCS following head injury November 2012. Experienced dizzyness, light and noise sensitivity, hypercusis, fatigue, insomnia, migraines, facial pain, problems concentrating, irritability, sensory overload, exercise intolerance. Symptoms mostly resolved, working full time and I am now mostly better. I wake 6am daily since my injury. Was experiencing daily Neuralgia which was controlled with Cymbalta 30mg, Lyrica 200mg daily. Now only on 30mg Cymbalta. |

I also had PCS in November, but recovered fully in May. My ON is even gone. I am very blessed to have recovered. You will see change. Getting treated for the stress part of the injury is what helped me recover. Limiting stress and giving yourself a break is key. And no electronics!

College Student in Information Technology and avid PC Gamer, hit the back of my head against a bunk bed and went unconscious for 3 minutes back in 10-28-2012. Symptoms: Occipital Neuralgia. 2 MRI's and CT normal. Currently going through Paxil withdrawals, and psych has me on L-Theanine, Benadryl for zaps, and Lemon Balm. It has eased it by a bit, so I am continuing the treatment till 1 month from now. Made a 98% recovery on April 8, 2013 with only symptoms of pinched nerves/Occipital Neuralgia in the head and is being treated with injections and physical therapy. Was experiencing: Migraines, Headaches, Nausea and Vomiting, Panic Attacks and Anxiety, Depression, Major Insomnia, Brain Fog, Tinnitus, Lethargy, Loss of appetite, Major Heart Palpitations, Occipital Neuralgia has eased a bit. Vitamins and Medicines: , L-Theanine, Omega 3 Super DHA 900mg, Stress B-Complex Extra Strength, Potassium Gluconate 1000mg, Magnesium Malate 1250mg, Vitamin D3 2000 IU, Methylcobalamin B-12 5000 mcg, Vitamin C 500mg, Lemon Balm. Things that helped me: My Vitamin Regimen, Medication, Earplugs (Love these!), Nature Sounds, Hydrotherapy, Neck Pillow with Heat, Heating Pads, Resting, Being Outside! |
