We had lots of overcast last month but plenty of sun lately. I have never had a problem with SAD. In fact, I always wear a hat because of struggles with brightness.

[SIZE="1"]What happened. I was in a car accident 2-23-2013, and got a mild concussion from it. I had some time off for brain rest, got somewhat better, but slipped into PCS in March 2013. Symptoms I had: dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, fatigue, tinitis, occasional headaches and migraines, Symptoms as of 5--2013: poor sleep, tinitis, some confusion /short term memory blanks, balance. The other symptoms are mostly gone, but flare up if I OVERdo something. Therapy I had: vestibular 3 months in: I could drive more and for longer distances. I felt like a younger, happier version of myself and I feel so blessed to have this feeling. 9 months in and I am working full time. I do get tired, and some sound and light sensitivity from time to time, but mostly I am over most of my symptoms. I pray every day and I m praying for your recovery. Over a year in: I can multi task (limited) and have humor in my life. But when I am tired, I am very tired. |

I had another of these episodes last night. I took an Excedrin and within a hour, I was doing better. I explained it to my wife as feeling like I have a spaghetti brain. All of the thoughts get tangled up and the emotions get lost in the mess.
I did a quick google and found research that describes cognitive struggles caused by PTSD. It described many of my struggles this past month or two. Looking back, I have been through similar struggles in the past. I was just much younger at those times. I have an appointment at my internal medicine doctor next Tuesday. Maybe he has some ideas. He helped me transition off the paroxetine to the L-Tryptophan.

Dear Mark,
I'm so sorry about your whole situation! You've always been a tremendous support for everyone on this forum. I think you are a wonderful person! I wish I can do something to change the situation. I'll keep you in my prayers!

2002 - hit my head on a washer door while doing laundry. Recovered in 24 hours (was 7 months pregnant at that time) 2005 (maybe 2006) - kitchen cabinet (it took me ~ 1 week to recover) 2009 - refrigerator shelf, recovered in 1 month summer, 2011 - metal rail, the life-changing concussion. Black out for ~10 minutes, spent ~2weeks in bed (wasn't able to even use a bathroom by myself). Made a complete recovery in 2 months. October, 2011 - washer door again. Recovered in 1 months. March, 2012 - kitchen cabinet again. Suicidal depression. Was diagnosed with OCD. Severe anxiety. Was completely recovered in 4 months, celexa is a magical pill. After that I managed to go almost 1.5 years without a concussion! Was at a completely symptom-free stage, started volunteering at my kids' school again. I was living a happy life. Then, August, 2013 - fell down the stairs, broke my ankle badly (my surgeon said that he literally has never seen anything that bad ever before and he's been practicing for more than 20 years). September, 2013 - my son was hugging me and we bumped into each other. Result - complete return of all of my symptoms., no improvement with time. Severe depression again. 7/7/2014 - hit my self on a metal shelf again while trying to clean. I'm not clumsy. It's just the floor hates me, the tables and chairs are bullies and the wall gets in the way. |

Hi Mark,
I'm sorry to hear you've been dealing with a lot of stress lately. Caffeine helps me too. I try not to drink more than 1-2 cups a day and also not past 12p-2p or so. I think you've said it yourself, no one injury is the same... and therefore there can't be any hard and fast "rules" IMO. But much advice floating around is helpful to some people some of the time and definitely worth trying... I also try not to be too "rigid" about anything as I realize this is a symptom/effect of TBI. You're in my prayers. |

Hope you're doing better and trying to limit the stress that is brought on by your situation. Curious to know if you've had any setbacks since it's been a few days since your Excedrin?

In July 2013 ran into a metal bar at a playground, remained conscious. CT normal. Headache subsided after a week. In August woke with thunderclap-type headache in right side of head, right eye was droopy. Ever since had electrical-type pulsating all over when falling asleep and during sleep. Strong muscle twitching occasionally. Chest pain in heart region, front left neck region, and left shoulder. Strong heartbeat noise in head and occasional weird noises in ears. Taking Gabapentin to control nighttime nerves. Other symptoms: anxiety attacks, goosebumps, fine motor coordination problems, sleep apnea, headaches/migraines, fatigue, unclear thinking. Update as of Jan. 2015 - almost all symptoms gone except for some tinnitus. Taking good care of myself except sometimes when I overdo it. |

I am visiting at my MIL's and they had Fox with Megan Kelly blaring and I had a meltdown last night. Now, everybody has experienced my struggles. The audio stimulation was just too much. I took an Excedrin but still struggled.
Now, the place is quiet. We fly to Sacramento to visit my mother and other family for a few days this weekend. Hope it is quiet there. She is 88 and I need to go see her. When we return, I have court to see if a plea will get the felony charges dropped. I feel like a head of cattle being lead to slaughter. Please pray for me.

Take care of yourself the rest of the trip and put yourself first. Visiting others can be stressful.
You can count on my prayers.
