Hi,
I suffered a concussion 30 day ago. However, I did not rest a single day after it happened, because I did not recognize it as a discussion. As a result I'm experiencing a chronic headache now. I got some blows on the top of my forehead and experienced headaches after it but I did not black out and I was not dizzy nor did I experience nausea. Also I could remember everything. Initially, I thought about a concussion but after having done some googling I dismissed. I thought, I did not have a concussion because I was not dizzy or anything just the headache (How stupidy can one be?). The headache wasn't severe, it did not stop me from working. As a consequence I did not rest a single day. Instead I was working all day long at the computer. Infact, each single day since then I did not do anything else than working at the computer and in addition even having the tv turned on at the side for hours. I got up and worked until until I went sleeping. (I'm university student.) Due to the fact that I had some other illness that simply needed time to get better, I was also focused on not to listen too much to my body but to distract myself. Unfortunately, this contributed to ignoring my headaches. The headaches were never severe. (They are of that kind, that many people experience in the summer when it is very hot and very sticky.) I did not think about it and blamed it too other circumstances, too warm in my room, not having drunken enough, etc. At some point I noticed that I basically never really was symptom-free. Well, you must think that I am the stupidest person on earth. Actually, my fellows consider me to be quite smart. Well, they judge me by my grades but obviously I am quite the opposite: I must be really, really stupid! It is unbelievable to me how I could be that stupid. I can't change the past. Is there anything I could do now? Would there be any hope in taking a full rest now for a month or so? By saying "full rest", I really mean a rest of that kind that I should have taken immediately after the concussion happened: no computer, no tv, no reading, mainly lying in bed in a dark room. The problem is, the concussion did not happened yesterday, it happened 30 day ago. Thus, a long time ago, too long ago. What would you do if you were me? Being a student and not having to work to support a family, I would have the possibility to take a full rest for the next month. Is there any hope in it or is it simply too late now? P.S. I'm not a native speaker. Thus, please excuse any mistakes. Obviously this must be the stupiest story you have read on this board. Though everything is my own fault I still hope to get some replies. Thank you very much for reading this post. |

Rest always helps. You do not need to be doing nothing. Light stimulation to keep blood flowing is good. Maybe some manual tasks like playing solitaire or other things that use your hands. Or gentle walks in quiet places.
Read the sticky at the top about Vitamins and Supplements.

Hello Yellowbird
Please don't be so hard on yourself. Your injured brain can heal. It probably will heal if you let it. Breathe, and learn to relax. Find out about how you can relax with deep breathing and there are other natural ways to relax. Take it easy! poetrymom

[SIZE="1"]What happened. I was in a car accident 2-23-2013, and got a mild concussion from it. I had some time off for brain rest, got somewhat better, but slipped into PCS in March 2013. Symptoms I had: dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, fatigue, tinitis, occasional headaches and migraines, Symptoms as of 5--2013: poor sleep, tinitis, some confusion /short term memory blanks, balance. The other symptoms are mostly gone, but flare up if I OVERdo something. Therapy I had: vestibular 3 months in: I could drive more and for longer distances. I felt like a younger, happier version of myself and I feel so blessed to have this feeling. 9 months in and I am working full time. I do get tired, and some sound and light sensitivity from time to time, but mostly I am over most of my symptoms. I pray every day and I m praying for your recovery. Over a year in: I can multi task (limited) and have humor in my life. But when I am tired, I am very tired. |

Hello, YellowBird,
It's exactly what happened to my son almost two month ago. He was hit by the soccer ball on the top of the head. Didn't think he had concussion and continued normal activities for a couple of days. He told us about it only after headache was never gone for days and medications didn't work. He rested after for 4 weeks. Didn't change anything. he still has headache. Not severe, but annoying. Everyone here, and doctors as well, suggest vitamins. Our doctor stressed on 400 mg of B2 a day. I hope you feel better soon. It might take longer that we hope, but we should be patient. |

Thank you very much for your reply! I really hope your son will get better with time! It sounds exactly as in my case. I'm experiencing a constant mild headache that is not severe but annoying. It resembles headaches I sometimes got on very hot stifling summer days when being in a hot unairconditioned room, though it appears to be located a bit more higher in the forehead. These weather related headaches did not hinder you from working, of course, but they were annoying and disturbing. (The huge difference: the next day or in the evening when it got less stifling these headaches were gone away.) Yet, I have to say that in the past week on 3 days in the evenings I really felt the urge to go to bed to find relieve as my headache was getting worse. Thank you for your vitamine B2 hint! I will give it a try. One question: I'm not sure if I got it right. Your son rested for 4 weeks beginning the rest on the day he told you about the headaches (some days after the concussion happened), right? (I'm sorry for asking, I'm not a native speaker.) I'm going to rest now. It will probably be too late but what else can I do, now. Thus, I'll try it. Actually, I do not know if there is any chance at all that the headaches will go away anytime. I guess this simply is the consequence of not resting after a concussion and the reason why medics warn patients to also take mild concussions seriously. They do it for good reason. @all As in my country supplements are strictly regulated and they are selling only minimal doses like 10mg of vitamine B2 per pill :-D I am honestly considering importing myself supplements from the U.S. Is there any reliable brand? (A pharmaceutical company?) A brand its supplements are approved by FDA or tested by Consumer Lab. I want to be sure if I import supplements that they really contain what they pretend to contain. |

I reread your post and your sentence that my question was referring to and now I know that I got it right ;-) Besides, I read your other posts about your son on this board, too. Thus, now I know I really got it right ;-) One more thing I would like add: I did not want to sound so negative. Your son is just 15, so he is young. Maybe this will help him recover given more time and being patient! I wish all the best to your son! |

YellowBird,
Yes, he started to rest on day 4. Because he told us only on day 3 in the evening. You mentioned that you had headaches before the concussion. He did too. Sometimes stress related, sometimes wheather related headaches. But advil worked before. And after concussion - nothing works. And all the doctors ( we saw 3 different doctors) told us that because he had migraines before it will take longer to be headache free for him now. I am not sure what brand you can get from US, but we are in Canada and I bought Jamieson brand. B2 100 mg. i am sure you can do your research. Good luck! |

Thanks again for your reply!
Yes, I did have migraines when I was a child. (I was very light sensitive and it were bad headaches when I got these migrain attacks.). I did not get the migraines anymore when I got older (actually I have not yet suffered from a single real migraine attack in my 20s) I've always been sensitive to weather related headaches, too. Put me in an unairconditioned car in the summer and you would get a 100% garantee of me getting a headache. This also got better when I got older but I've been still experiencing it as I wrote before so not like the migraine that was gone at some point. Maybe I've been set back in this aspect due to the concussion (somekind of reactivation of headache activity) and the history of headaches makes recovery prolonged in our cases. Also, please keep in mind that your son "just" did not rest for 3 days. Be patient. Thanks again for your reply and thanks for naming the supplements brand. Now, I'll really be offline and not checking back this board for some days because of strictly not using the computer in order to rest. Thanks to you and to Mark for replying!
