Default Question about potential migraine and dizziness & medication

My constant dizziness has always been the most prominent symptom, so I did not pay much attention to the infrequent headaches I would get. Plus the headaches were not that painful so I just dealt with them.

But yesterday I was doing some light exercise and I felt the right side of my neck tighten up and then dull pain and throbbing go up the right side of my head and into the back of my right eye and temple. The pain minimized but the throbbing sensation stayed around and my dizziness got a little worse. Then I had trouble sleeping last night and today I feel tired and more dizzy than yesterday.

Is this a migraine?

My GP wanted me to go on amitriptilyne (sp?) which you take everyday for headache pain. I am reluctant because the headaches are infrequent and the pain is bearable.

Is it really necessary to take a medicine everyday for infrequent headaches? Is there any other medicine that could be taken to control them? Is there any medicine that would help with the dizziness associated with the event?
