Doctor prescribed me 50,000 iu vitamin d (once a weekly) capsule to get my levels back to normal levels.
Other than that my TSH blood test came back normal. thoughts?

A vitamin D deficiency can be a problem. Getting your D levels up should help you. I am surprised you are not taking 5,000 mgs twice a day rather than a 50,000 once a week.
You also want to be taking calcium, magnesium, and potassium to help with absorption. Did he test your B-12 and folate levels ?

Arty, the RX version of D given by doctors doesn't work in humans very well.
Doctors haven't followed the research and continue to use this old form, when there is evidence now, that it is basically useless. You need to get the OTC version of D3...cholecaliciferol instead. Using your test results...the general rule is 1000IU D3 for every 10 points you need to raise. So if you are say 20... that would be 3000 IU D3 to get to 50...the new suggested lowest normal. This is my Vit D thread: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread92116.html and: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/ar...d-mistake.aspx

Here is a link to an article my Dr. wrote about Vitamin D:
http://www.goodhormonehealth.com/VitaminD.pdf I also took Vitamin D3 for twelve weeks, 50,000 IU to get my levels into the normal range once it was discovered that I was vey low. Now I take 1000 IU every night with calcium before bed. I think it's great that your TSH levels are normal. This basically means that your thyroid gland is working well and that it's receiving the hormones it needs to work well from your pituitary gland, and that your pituitary gland is receiving hormones it needs from your hypothalamus which is monitoring the hormones secreted by your thyroid gland. Did you ask your Dr. to test these levels for you? Did your Dr. order this testing because of your concussion/PCS symptoms? |

Update:
I didn't took the 50,000iu vitamin d2 the doc prescribe me. Instead I went with 5,000iu of vitamin d3 a day. My vitamin d levels are now in the 60s. I'm not taking it no more. Get it mostly from my diet now. Also b-12 really made the difference for me. It give me energy. I feel like a kid again.

But I will say, it is not possible to get adequate D3 from food. (even with the US fortification of orange juice, milk and some cheeses). Only sunlight will be adequate if you discontinue your D3. Make a note to yourself to get tested about 6 mons after stopping your D3 supplement to see how much you have slipped.
