I will be brief because I'm having another migraine attack!

I've had daily headaches-and sometimes weekly migraines going on now 22 months now. I also had vertigo spells and vision issues.

At first I was on trazodone and tramadol and propanolol for 16months. I followed the vitamin and mineral (cur cumin and magnesium routine). 6 months ago started on nortryptiline until I started to lactate.I've also did icing which helps for an hour or so~

I'm now on topamax for a week which has helped, but this is my first migraine.

These symptoms are so unique to us all. its critical to have a practioner who is willing to work with you and try new approaches. New research has shown that it isn't so much vascular as much as neurological.

Best of luck!

Most mixtures have the oxide form. So you will have to find a separate magnesium. A chelate like glycinate, or gluconate. SlowMag is delayed release chloride. There is a generic for SlowMag called Mag64, which is a bit less money.
SlowMag is at WalMart and you would start at one tablet twice a day. Calcium citrate-- CitraCal-- is a good calcium type.

MrD, thanks for the heads up, really appreciate this as I learn as I go along I am so happy to get information tried and tested.

Found the slow mag on amazon, as I am in the United Kingdom there are no Walmarts here so will have to wait diligently via amazon . Wish I could just get now wanted to start this regime ASAP.

Also could you please advise if magnesium citrate is an expectable form, saw those and delivery would be quicker. Two caplets at 400mg each of magnesium citrate was the recommended dosage. Any good?

Hi Berkeleybrain,

Thanks for your post and for the insight. To be honest if I could manage my pain I could live a normal life. But my neurologist won't prescribe any new medication. I have just been on 20mg then increasing to 25mg amitriptyline daily. I just don't know. He keeps telling me to continue with what I take. In my mind I think with all the medication in the world surely something else can help. He says the others come with such dire side effects I am much better off staying on amitriptyline and dealing with only weight gain. I just need something to take the mild throb of a hangover feeling off each morning I wake up and through the day. Plus I don't know of the availability of these drugs in the UK.

Ps: Hope your migraine attack have now subsided. All the best.

Regards
Rosa

Rosa,

What are you taking the amitriptyline for ? The common doseage is 10 mgs before bed to help with insomnia and head aches.

Do you have anybody who can observe you sleeping, paying particular attention to your breathing ? Bad mornings are often linked to poor sleep often caused by poor breathing during sleep.

What other symptoms are you struggling with ?

Hi Mark,

I was originally on on 10mgs about 2mths after my first concussion in June 2013. I went back to work in October 2013 but relapsed by November 2013 with debilatating migraines. My neurologist increased my amitriptyline to 20mgs and signed me off work for 4 months. During my four months recovery I accidentally bumped the back of my head on shelf in Jan 2014. My amitriptyline was increased to 25mgs until now.

I take nothing else for medication but the headaches feel less and less as the months go by. What remains now is a "numb feeling in my head" a "presence" a "mild hangover". I am not currently at work so can work around the feeling throughout the day by resting when necessary or doing my gym to increase overall well being.

I am worried what will happen when I commence work this Wednesday with this still being an underlying issue. There will be loads of colleagues talking to me, back to a computer screen. I just don't want being overwhelmed to aggravate my symptoms again.

So taking the amitriptyline to help with this feeling and neurologist advised to continue taking it as what I am feeling are still apart of my symptoms.

My BF has always mentioned that I have a soft snore, whilst sleeping but doesn't develop any louder. But I have a great pillow, a super warm duvet and good cotton night dresses.

Regards,
Rosa

Hi Rosa,

Have you tried acupuncture? While I didn't find it helped my headaches, a TBI friend was really happy with her results. It can't hurt to try.

Hi Hockey,

Yes I am currently doing acupunture sessions once a week. I have seen some improvement but have another 6 sessions to go over the next 6 weeks. I am feeling better for it but hasn't yet removed pain completely. So let's see how that plays out.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

How many acupunture sessions did your friend do ?

Regards
