Hello everyone!
![]() I have a few questions about neck issues, and I know many of you have experiences with this subject so I hope I'll get some clarity on the issue.. I got a whiplash injury in october of last year and then my neck got hurt again whith my second concussion in january. I had loads of issues in the beginning, then they went away and now since about a month they are back. My neck i very stiff, cramps up a lot, very sore, cracks alot when I move it, and hurts, my left side is much more painful so I guess that side got more affected. What I have started to experience during this last month is that sometimes when I see white things, they look pink. This does not happen everyday but some days, like today suddenly everything is just pink that is supposed to be white. Could this be neck related? I have been sitting A LOT by the computer, which causes me loads of eye strain so maybe that makes it worse, I don't know.. But since I know neck issues can cause visual problems, do you think these two issues could be connected? I am freaking out about optic neurititis or what it's called, basically fearing to lose my vision.. What do you think I should do to ease this neckproblem? Is icing good? I feel like it would cramp up the neck even more but maybe that's not true? Is heat good or does it increase inflammation? How do you find a good way to sit/walk/lay down with your neck problems? I am scared of going to a chiropractor since they (in my opinion) tend to not be so gentle. Hmmm..Any thoughts, ideas? Anyone who has been to an osteopath for neck problems? Thanks in advance!! ![]() |

There are a few choices: Osteopath, chiro, physical therapist. It is not the specialty that matters. Rather, it is the skills set and technique that matters most. Different chiros use different techniques. Same goes for PT's and osteos. You may benefit from an exam by a physiatrist (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) who can refer you to the proper specialist. Call PM&R docs and ask if they have good experience with whiplash.
Regarding icing. Cold reduces inflammation. Heat increases blood flow. Heat can sometimes help to loosen an area if it is used with mobilization. My first choice is usually ice. I found this about pink vision http://www.justanswer.com/eye-health...e-objects.html The second answer says it is a benign symptom. There are no diseases that cause this.

Some chiros can be very gentle, and some do PT style treatments along with adjusting if needed.
A skilled & expert chiro will not need to yank you around so search out those. Also since you mention a lot of computer use - plus tight neck muscles .. some of that can be due to poor posture & poor ergonomics. You can probably find some helpful videos & websites for info on both of those, many things you can do at home and they might help.

Since my concussion I have been visiting an osteopath for neck pain and the first session he told me that I had completely blocked my neck and spine in the fall, he managed to increase the movement as well as untrap a nerve in my neck which has helped reduce the pain which is great. After two sessions my neck has almost stopped grinding and cracking when I move it which was freaking me out before.
I also find ayuvedic balm helpful for the neck and back pain (especially after the sessions with the osteopath as he recommended heat (and heat inducing creams) as opposed to cold. I bought my balm in Asia but I think Tiger Balm is similar and almost as good. I find computer use and artificial light, especially the strip lights in offices, transport and public buildings, affects my vision (as well as making me dizzy and sick). Two things help me: 1) Downloading Flux on my laptop and having the screen in "night" mode all the time, the pink light is much easier on the brain than the normal glaring blue light which my head cannot take. I also have a similar application on my mobile phone which makes a major difference. 2) I wear sunglasses whenever I can, indoors and outdoors even in the office much to the amusement of my colleagues. If I don't have my contact lenses in then I pop my sunglasses on top of my glasses. I would rather look ridiculous than feel like hell! I wonder if the pink vision could be a reaction to the brain not being able to take the blue light from the screen? In my case there seems to be a correlation. |
