Hi everyone for no reason I always make progress then go backwards. I am starting to move a bit more but i am cautious and then boom brain fog, dizzy spells and weakness with headaches all come back. TBI the unwanted gift that keeps giving. Does this happen to anyone else?

Yeah happens all the time to me as well. In the beginning of my TBI journey it would seem very random at times, now, after 1.5 years, it is usually set off by something.
My most recent one was from getting a haircut, I guess either the buzzing of the clippers or the sound set stuff off for me, two weeks later I'm still not back on track. The weird thing is that the previous haircut wasn't really that bad. I look at this as being in a boat in big ocean waves, you struggle to get to the crest of the wave (feeling better), but then quickly race down into the trough and feel miserable. The good thing about feeling miserable is that you know it will only get better very soon.

Went snowmobiling once (didn't hit my head) and concussion symptoms returned and got even worse than before. June 2013 - accidentally bumped my head against a deck railing, and had a month-long setback. November 2013 - drove to work after a big snowstorm and the roads were very rough, ended up having another setback. 2014 - Having setbacks after coughing/sneezing too much, or someone slapping me on the back, or any other significant jarring. Feb 2014 - Started seeing Atlas Orthogonal chiro - most helpful doc so far. June 2014 - Two months of physical/visual therapy - no noticeable improvement. September 2014 - Diagnosed with Perilymph Fistula in right ear. November 2014 - Fistula surgery (switched to left ear before the surgery after additional testing). January 2016 - Quit work to "work" on figuring out PCS, so far it seems that eyes/vision issues are the most contributing factor, especially computer work. Current symptoms are: inconsistent sleep patterns, headaches, vertigo/dizziness, anxiety/panic attacks, mental fog/problems with concentration, problems with computer screens. |

rr,
When you had your hair cut, did you get your hair washed ? There is strain to the neck as you bend your head back into the sink. It can cause a beauty parlor stroke. For me, it just messes up my neck. Plus, the neck tension from holding your head still can cause problems.

My neck has substantially improved in the past 6 months after starting AO chiro treatments and PT. Ever since my injury I've been very sensitive to any kind of vibration or bumping. When I do get a haircut I can feel the vibration kinda rattle inside my head and it's very unpleasant. Even my voice changed over time and it's not as deep. Every time I tried to speak normal the vibration of my own voice was very unpleasant (this has been getting better lately). Most doctors tell me it's my anxiety, the PT thinks it's in my neck. I really do hope it's my neck since it's easier to fix than a middle ear problem or brainstem damage.

I am very sensitive to vibrations too!!! I tried to use a magic bullet, boy did the vibration hurt! Yes, I cannot talk loudly as the vibration from my own voice hurt my head.

The Start: MVA, t-boned, on 1-12-14 (my sons 5th birthday) and did not think anything of it.. my back hurt on site but everything else seemed ok. Lost about 10-12 hours from about 3 hours after the accident to the next day...Experienced terrible brain fog for over a month, plus intense headaches, nausea, dizziness, cognitive difficulties, disorientation, no short term memory, depression and just an overall hangover feeling daily. Current Situation: I'm about 7 months in and my local neurologist has waived her white flag and therefore I am headed to Dallas to be seen (I have family there). The headaches are still daily. I have nausea, dizziness as well. Drugs I have been on- Vicodin (off), Naproxen (off), proanolol (off), topamax (off), cataflam (off), Midrin (off), Flexeril (off) and now Namenda XR (off), Nortrptylin (off), Verapamil (off) Therapy- Osteopath, Vestibular and balance therapy, fuzion/soft tissue massage, acupuncture Drs- ER (no help), GP, Chiropractor, Neurologist and Osteopath |

Yup, its amazing how it can come back full bore. In May I went back to work for a week part time, 4 hours a day. It came back 10 fold. Now the neurologist and the neuropsych said that doing that has caused a lot of damage. Especially because I passed out a few times, and possibly hit my head again. I dont remember though if I did, as I was unconscious for a few seconds each time.
Heck even to this day, I cannot mow my grass, or move to fast or else it all comes crashing down. |

Kevbo, Sarah i am so sorry to hear that. Sarah i know how you feel, people say do this it will help and the opposite occurs. Kevbo i am sorry to hear that because that must be scary. I have not been able to work much since feb and my $ is dwindling. Also i got school in like a month but im not sure if i can go. So frustrating but i would go make sure for both of you that TBI is the culprit. I have had some breathing problems with chest pains but my primary says im too young or too old for anything since im in my young 20s. My go elsewhere for a physical
