I guess the full effects don't come right away, but I was wondering if cognitive issues can get worse due to poor circulation in the brain or whatever...

Do you have neck muscle pain?
If so, It could be spasms & trigger points. Those may clamp down on nerves and blood flow to the head.. Expert PT or expert /multi modality chiropractor can help.

For me, my worst days follow bad nights of trying to sleep. Good oxygenated sleep is important to recovery and just a good day.

It is possible to get worse. This is why we must be very careful with over stimulation and activity. Getting oxygen to the brain is very important. Walking and swimming are the best ways for me.

This is exactly why neuropsych assessments scare me... I don't want to get worse...

How can a NeuroPsych Assessment cause it to get worse ? Over-stimulation will only cause a relapse of past symptoms, not a worsening of the injury. dawneve is over-stating the case.

Over the last couple years I've had to attend 2 independent medical exams which required travelling a couple hours each way, I survived a 2 day functional capacity exam which I was certain was going to kill me but it didnt and I had neuropsych testing done.
All of these things set me back considerably in my recovery but only for a while. It took awhile sometimes a few days sometimes a week or more but I did recover from every setback. I think with every new thing we go through we should expect to have a setback Thats just how things are now. I measure my progress now by how fast I can recover from these relapses. When I decided to stop worrying about what could happen as a result of the stresses of testing to how am I going to deal with the increased fatigue and headaches and other intensified symptoms my anxiety levels went way way down . As I found out last year it is possible to get worse.
After about 3 months from the injury I was feeling rather good, it felt like I finally recovered. Then I made a mistake of going snowmobiling and it got waaaay worse, still trying to recover from that over a year later.

12/02/2012 - Light concussion at boxing practice. Ended up having PCS for about 3 months. March 2013 - Thought that since most of my symptoms resolved I could start having fun again. Went snowmobiling once (didn't hit my head) and concussion symptoms returned and got even worse than before. June 2013 - accidentally bumped my head against a deck railing, and had a month-long setback. November 2013 - drove to work after a big snowstorm and the roads were very rough, ended up having another setback. 2014 - Having setbacks after coughing/sneezing too much, or someone slapping me on the back, or any other significant jarring. Feb 2014 - Started seeing Atlas Orthogonal chiro - most helpful doc so far. June 2014 - Two months of physical/visual therapy - no noticeable improvement. September 2014 - Diagnosed with Perilymph Fistula in right ear. November 2014 - Fistula surgery (switched to left ear before the surgery after additional testing). January 2016 - Quit work to "work" on figuring out PCS, so far it seems that eyes/vision issues are the most contributing factor, especially computer work. Current symptoms are: inconsistent sleep patterns, headaches, vertigo/dizziness, anxiety/panic attacks, mental fog/problems with concentration, problems with computer screens. |

I agree with Mark In Idaho... if I don't have a restful sleep...the next day is terrible. I don't know whether I am coming or going.
