Default Turmeric amount?

I'm going to try taking some turmeric with black pepper and wondered how much to take, I've heard a teaspoon per day? I see you can get expensive supplements measured in grams but don't see the point when you can buy fresh turmeric and pepper!

My doctor has me on 1200 mg / day of curcumin. I can't help with the conversion to how much turmeric to take.

Turmeric root powder has about 3% curcumin so it needs to be taken in large amounts. Curcumin is often taken in 500 mgs twice a day. Some people struggle with stomach tolerance for large amounts of turmeric powder. Yes, the turmeric powder is cheap but the amount of curcumin in it is low.

Wow, you must have very enlightened doctors where you are. Have noticed any beneficial effects since taking the curcumin?

The studies showing benefit with curcumin used special forms that were designed to deliver MORE thru the GI tract and into the blood stream.

Longvida brand is one, and another is Curcugel 500.

You can Google those to find where to purchase. I believe Amazon has at least one.

Some raw herbals contain bioperine concentrate, which "may" help with absorption, but it is less effective than the other two.

This article describes an attempt to improve absorption using a topical curcumin product made with liposomes and then applied to the skin.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22609787

This is an example of a liposomal product liquid:
http://www.letstalkhealth.com/Liposo...16oz-p/627.htm

There are places on the net that explain how you can make your own liposomal vehicle with a food processor and common ingredients. Some people make their own liposomal Vit C.

I forgot to add that the information I found says that turmeric can take up to 8 weeks to see a difference.
