My husband suffered a severe concussion about 6 weeks ago. Been seeing neurologist every two weeks. Severe by way of loc hospital stay for 5 days. Diagnosed with pcs and trying meds no improvement. One concern is when he leans his head forward ( chin to chest) he gets a tingling sensation in his back right side just near bottom of shoulder blade that also goes to his right chest. Soon as he tips his head back it goes away. Nero is concentrating on his headaches still non stop. Dizyness blurred vision. Nero has not even attempted cognitive testing as he knows my husband is no where near ready for that yet.
My question is this knumbness ( tingling ) when his head is tipped forward any thoughts? Thank you |

Laura76,
Welcome to NeuroTalk. Your husband's experience is not uncommon. He has likely suffered a subtle neck or upper spine injury. He might benefit from some gentle chiropractic care or a physical therapist with expert skills with subtle neck and spine injuries. With his level of symptoms, I am surprised he has not had an MRI of his neck. You may look into Atlas Orthogonal or NUCCA chiropractic. He also need to practice disciplined neck posture to help his neck heal, especially when he is resting or sleeping. What meds has he been put on ?

Thank you mark, he is on trazodone ( which does nothing)and topamax. He did have multiple mri' and cat scans. Only thing the was not normal was the EEG he had done in hospital (showed slow)?
He had some physical therapy and the pt said it was just a muscle. This injury has really put him In just places he's never been. His short term memory is non existent as he don't remember things 5 minutes past. The Nero dr did say this is not going to be a quick fix. And something's could be permanent. As In a good majority of cases he had seen people showed improvement by now. |

Did the CT Scan and MRI's look at his neck and upper back ?
At 6 weeks, he is still early in his recovery. Nobody can predict much at this point. What did the PT mean by it was just a miracle ? Has he been released from PT ? In his current state, I doubt it is reliably possible to judge the effect of the Trazadone. It sounds like his brain is still struggling seriously. Has anybody suggested high doses of Omega 3 fish oil ? He will also benefit from a good neuro vitamin regimen such as posted in the Vitamins sticky at the top. He needs continued rest with gentle moderated stimulation. What does he do each day ?

Mark, sorry I ment pt says it's just a muscle. His day consist of waking up and staying in bed. I try to get him out for a ride but bumps motion sun all are miserable on him. Noise is also brutal for him.
He may try to go downstairs but can tolerate that for about 20 minutes. He does go outside sometimes in the evening and sit on the porch once sun goes down. He's since his injury developed agitation and tells me he feels cloister phobic even when I'm not really that close to him. Just tough seeing anyone specially a loved one go through this unknown |

Mark, I've talked with you in the past. Mike1971 was my profile but since it's me asking for help to help him I made a profile under my name Laura.
He had multiple mri and ct scans. Along with a EEG while hospitalized. The only test that showed abnormal was the EEG ( slow). His physical therapist said the numbness was muscle. His day consist of waking up and staying in bed. I've tried to get him out for a ride however the noise ,light and bumps are aweful on him He tries to go down stairs to living room but is good for about 20 minutes. The stairs bring on severe headaches for sure. He does go outside in the evening to sit on porch once sun goes down |

He may be struggling with tactile hypersensitivity. Has he had any speech or occupation therapy assessment ? The injured brain can have the strangest responses to the various senses. Years ago, I needed to wear chenille gloves to help with the tactile sensations that prevented me from sleeping.
He needs some sort of activity to stimulate a minimum level of blood flow through his brain. Do you have access to a stationary bike or floor pedal exerciser ? He needs to get some exercise but stay below his head ache threshold.
