When there is an attempt to help someone with a concussion, there are a few bits of information that are helpful.
Location. This is important so we can understand what kind of health care resources may be available. Between Canada, the UK and the USA, each have very different systems. Other countries are just as varied. State and City in the US can be helpful because there may be specific recommendations of clinics, etc. If it is a Work Comp case, different states have different WC systems. Age and sex. Us older people have slower and lesser chances of recovery. Younger people have more healing capability. Youth have other issues to consider. Sex means there can be more hormonal fluctuations to deal with. I know some are concerned about privacy issues but using fictitious screen names covers that easily. We routinely advize newbies to not use their real name to help maintain anonymity. The moderators can help change a real name to a fictitious screen name. For those who are willing, composing a signature in the User CP under Edit Signature can allow us to see your specifics with each post. Many of us have memory problems so trying to remember information from prior posts is problematic. You can set the font size to 1 to make your specifics 'the fine print.'

You should have said sex, not gender. Gender is a social construct, sex is a matter of biology.

Mark In Idaho, when you say real vs. fake name, are you referring to the username? Is there a way that people can see the email address that I used for the sign up process? I am concerned a bit about the privacy issue here.

We suggest not using your real name as user name , although some accidentally use email address as the user name when signing up..some have used their real name as user name also..
Members can not see email addresses unless you post it or message it to them. *Search engines do scan and archive postings * so best to not post any information that might be identifiable..and that you wouldn't want others to see in the future.

24 y/o female living in Portland, OR. One concussion in 2012 from rugby. Loss consciousness and took around 5 months to recover completely. Hit my head hard on a shelf on 12/7/14. Recovered by the end of February. A branch fell on my hardhat at work on 10/7. Not sure if completely concussed but have been feeling "out of it". Definitely injured my upper cervical region and upper back. Out of work for the time being. |

January 2, 2016 update: I am very optimistic, as I've made a significant recovery until now (2-Jan-2016). I am confident that my situation will keep improving. |

I should have added to my first post, There is no need to do fancy formatting of the signature information. Simple is better. This is just to be informational, not promotional. We'll find the information we need to put your post in perspective. Personally, I struggle when there are BOLD type styles used. My brain keeps wanting to focus on the bold print.
