Default maintaining hope/positive outlook

I realize the only thing that can really help to heal, medically, is time. However, I also think having a positive outlook on things can't hurt (maybe it won't help). How do you maintain hope and a positive outlook? Sometimes it is difficult when facing a slew of symptoms to imagine that life will be anything but a constant struggle of dealing with all this for many years to come. Any tips for maintaining a positive attitude in this very difficult time?
