Default 'Nother weird one-Tylenol Pm and brain fog

Hello all!

The past week or so I've been having trouble falling asleep. So.... I tried some Tylenol pm as it makes my husband pass out!

But oh man- I'm literally hungover all day, having awful awful dreams, my vision is worse the following day, as well as my brain fog is high and concentration is low.

It takes a lot of water and usually 2 days to recover. Not going to take it anymore obviously!

But what's going on? Anyone try sleep aids and have similar effects?

Anyone know of a good sleep aid or a supplement that works?

As always thanks!

Cheers, Dots

I agree with Mark. The Magnesium helps me a lot.
If you have a bathtub try the Epsom Salts but follow the directions.
Try to have a wind down time before bed as well. If I put my head on the pillow with my brain wired, daily events will just go around and around.

My dad's dr told us about this (the PM type OTC meds & more) -

[Are Your Drugs Raising Your Risk for Dementia?
Many popular prescription and over-the-counter medicines have anticholinergic activity and can increase the possibility of developing dementia.]

Tylenol PM has Benadryl in it.... very sedating and no surprise at your hangover either. New recommendations are not to use it if you are over 50....it is strongly anticholinergic and the elderly can't handle it properly.

The 5HTP knocks me out cold when I take it- maybe save that for nighttime?

I didn't realize the Mg was like that as well.

Probably more risk of overdoing it during the day if leaving both of these for PM.
Thoughts?

Leaking ceiling tonite.....great!

Dots,

I have to do like Lara..I need time to prepare for bed and I don't care for tea or coffee but I have stated having a cup of chamomile tea around 8:30 pm before to start my unwinding time.

Like Lara said about her daily events on replay, mine do to. I have found I need to b real careful about what topics of conversation I enter into or anything critical I say as they come back to wake me up or disturb me. Never had this stuff happen before.

Hi ilikepolkadots

I don't have any medical issues relating to sleep but sometimes I experience insomnia. Two things have helped me.

The first is what is called sleep hygiene - essentially what that means is developing good habits in preparation for sleep. There is one of many descriptions of it here: http://healthysleep.med.harvard.edu/...vercoming/tips .

The other is what is sometimes called Progressive Muscle Relaxation - this means tensing and then relaxing each of the muscle groups in my body.

I do it lying in bed, starting with my toe muscles and moving up to my facial muscles though the order does not matter.

There is an account of it here: http://www.painmanagement.org.au/201...elaxation.html .

The progressive muscle relaxation is great.
I was taught to do that many years ago to help with anxiety.
