Default Another hit to my head-worsening sympt.

Hi, I have problems after concussion (11mths), Ive got highs and lows. PCS consists of bad concentration, speech, read and memory problems, derealization, anxiety, eyes problems, etc. Last week I felt better, but 2 days ago I accidentally hit my head by the fridge door. My anxiety got immediately worse, Im crying very often because my symptoms are back and Im desperated..Everytime its better something bad occurs and Im 'back to square one'. What do you think, is it psychical problem or another concussion?

Veru,

The bump with the refrigerator door is not a concussion. The return of symptoms are due to anxiety. It is very frustrating to be struggling with PCS symptoms. Any little bump can cause an almost flashback like return of symptoms. But, unless the bump was a serious impact that caused an immediate 'dazed and confused' state, it was not a concussion.

As an anxiety response builds after the bump, the 'dazed and confused' sensation can manifest. But, that delayed 'dazed and confused' does not signify a concussion.

Try to relax and rest to help your system settle down.

What are you doing these days to try to recover from your concussion from 11 months ago ?

Thank you very much for your reply. Exactly, Im going through this flashback everytime something 'plays on my nerves'. But There were also times I felt almost like before. Then came the next drawback.
I think that the great benefit brought me homeopathy. Im still on it and it is the only thing I trust. I dont trust antidepressants anymore I hate it.
Im still trying to stop think about my problems. I have holidays at school and had to find some not. very difficult part time job because I couldnt be only at home and dont do anything.. it would break me even more down.
What help me is sport, family and friends
What about you? I have read somewhere that you are interested in PCS, you did some studies about that?

I've been dealing with PCS for 50 years. I have been seriously following the research since 2000.

Veru,

I have the same problems you got. From three concissions in 2024 I now get scared from every little bump.

Doctors here in Germany say PCS does not exist, we all make it up. I also refuse to take any antidepressants.

Hope you feel better soon

Initially I was against antidepressants too but came to understand how they may be beneficial in my recovery. Unfortunately they may result in a very road at times, particularly in the early weeks of starting them, but when the right agent/combination is used they have the potential to offer relief from pain, aid in sleep disturbance, anxiety, etc.

For me, I'm still undergoing regimen tweaking. In looking back, there's a couple anti-depressant's that I truly disdain, but more recently I'm experiencing some increased pain relief an increased dosage of Cymbalta.

They're definitely not for everyone, but they can be useful.

I admire you, really and Im at the same time sorrxm that you must have been struggling. It was so serious accident that you had to deal with such a hell for 50 years? Did you find out how it is possible that someone have PCS for 2 mths and another person for 50 years? Thats strange, isnt it?

Veru,

My concussion at 10 years old was quite severe. It changed me permanently. I have had 13 concussions since with some causing a bit more permanent dysfunctions. Others were just temporarily symptomatic. Usually, the permanent dysfunctions were very subtle. I would only notice them during stressful times.

It is very common for stress and anxiety to cause a relapse of PCS symptoms.

Durind the time I was on AD I had a very bad times. I had never felt so sad, couldnt sleep, eat, l4ve, anything. I had Cipralex and Asentra. Moreover, the problem is that this medicament doesnt resolve PCS problems only suppress.
