So my neuro gave me Trazodone, 50 mg before bedtime. I've only used it the past 3 days and already feel like not only is it not helping, it's making it worse (worse fatigue and headaches). Has anyone else had this experience with Trazadone? How long should I give it before I can say "it's definitely not helping"?

I would stay away from trazodone, if at all possible. I have read that animal studies suggest it has the potential to impede recovery from TBI.
Let me know if you want the link to the article I'm referencing. |

Just did a search and I think I found the studies you're talking about. That ****** me off; I don't know why my neuro even prescribed it then. Good thing I only took 3 of them; can't find how long these studies lasted or what dosage they used but I hope 3 pills in 3 days is not gonna have an adverse effect on my recovery.

I took it for two nights in hospital. You're right, it doesn't help. I got the least amount of sleep for my whole stay those two nights. I don't know where they got the idea that it induced sleep. I just felt rotten all night. I slept more during the day than I did with it at night.
Personally, I think, they count one of the side effects as a main effect. So what else does it do?? ![]() |

I'm sure you're fine, just don't take any more of them unless you find it absolutely necessary.

Very interesting guys. I had a Psychiatrist prescribe trazodone for dealing with my sleep disturbance a few months back. I don't like the idea of using sedatives so I've used it only sporadically during this time. However, I made a comment to my wife last month that I feel pretty crummy the morning after, but wasn't sure if this was linked to the trazodone or the over-stimulation/flooding that caused the sleep disturbance... I feel so crummy everyday, it's hard to be certain about the etiology.
Last night, though, I popped a trazodone (50 mg) and today I genuinely feel terrible, much moreso than normal. After reading this post, and considering my earlier thoughts on it, trazodone will find itself in the trash can by day's end. Last thing I need is something that actually makes me feel worse than I already do. Appreciate the post and responses guys ![]() |

Didn't take it last night and today I feel better than I did the past 3 days. Go figure.
