Default Did I whiplash myself or is it the glasses? Or both?

Hello everybody,

I was doing better but have relapsed. I am not quite sure what did it, so I hope you can help me.

Saturday morning I was lying in my bed and reading on my smartphone. I was lying flat down with my head and neck bent forward with a pillow behind so I could read (I know this is a bad position when you have an upper neck injury - but sometimes I forget).

My son came running and sat on me which made me push my head/neck backwards. It was not a violent push, only a little one, but I felt a little pull in the neck muscles and that my neck got streched.

Afterwards I felt a little more confused than usual but I thought that was because I have had a very stressful week.

A few hours after the neck episode, I picked up my new glasses at the optometrician. My optometrist had warned me, that it could take a few days to get used to the new glasses, although the strength is almost like my previous ones.

I have tried to use the new glasses carefully but since then, I have increasing dizziness and brain fog. Its a sailing sensation with fatigue and tiredness around my eyes. Also a little headache and nauseous.

My first question is - can I have given myself a new neck injury or aggravated the old one? Are there any of you who have tried something similar - how long did it take? I am now pretty nervous because the symptoms is similar to the ones I had when I first got a whiplash injury.

My second question is whether the symptoms are from the new glasses?

I hope some of you can help with insight:-(

I think you are being overly sensitive to minor issues that, if you ignore them, will resolve on their own. If you neck feels sore, you may have strained/stretched some muscles. A little warmth can help. But, such an injury would have no impact on your brain. The new glasses can feel different and anxiety can cause those minor differences to become a focus of your attention.

So, try to ignore them and move forward. By the end of the week, I doubt you will notice anything different.

I really feel lile something is very wrong. I am confused, dizzy, nauseous and feel out of myself and extremely tired and anxious.

I am so nervous that I have to start all over again and that I have gotten a new neck injury.

I just cant understand - it was a very little push when I pushed my neck backwards and I had a matttrs below and a soft pillow behind my neck. I admit it was a very bad position I was lying in, but the "accident" seemed like nothing, except that I felt a stretch in my neck and know it is bad to strentch the neck in this position. Maine it can be compared to stranding straight up in an elevator and bending the head forward looking at the shoes when the elevator siddende stops.

Any indsigt would be valuable

I'm wondering why the optometrist warned you if the glasses are similar strength as old ones.

Did you change from bifocals to progressive lenses or something?

I had a very hard time using progressives.
Part of it was my RSI/muscle spasms in neck /c1c2 issues - and part was from lipitor.
Went back for many readjustments but still was dizzy , struggling a lot esp in stores /shopping..lots of movement and bright lights..

Years later I got those glasses out and now I can use them..but i rarely do..
RSI/muscle spasms are gone mostly, no more lipitor, and c1c2 is fixed..soooo..

Same here Jo. I had a terrible time with progressive lenses. I've posted about it a few times here. I figured my problem was from the need to bob my head and eyes around up and down and side to side all the time trying to focus properly. I used to bang into walls and all sorts of things. I do have vertigo already though, but those progressives made life much worse.

If you go back to your old glasses or don't wear glasses at all, do you still feel the same way?
