Although most of my symptoms 20 months post concussion are significantly better there is one that is VERY bothersome, VERY annoying and refuses to let go and that is the ear ringing (Tinnitus) in my right ear.
I'm wondering if anyone has gotten any relief of late? Maybe it's due to lack of sleep or over exertion/exhaustion following the trauma however it is NO fun and very frustrating as silence is thing of the past. Thanks for your feedback. Injury: Right side of head slammed concrete on the right side. Right sided Tinntus and difficulties in dark settings. Bad sleep. |

Hi Martin, I have had tinnitus in my right ear since early after my accident. It has worsened and is really a problem for me now. I am currently seeing a ear nose and throat doctor who is hopeful he can give some relief. I use a blue tooth ear bud in the bad ear with either music or white noise for distraction. sometimes helps. The dr. said getting good sleep is important...hard for me as sleep is not great right now. Do you have hearing loss in the affected ear? |

I have mild hearing loss around 15-20DB at 4-6 HTZ but nothing outside the norm for a mid 30's male. However i do have higher frequency hearing loss.
Do you have hearing loss? How long after your injury did the Tinnitus come on? |

yes I do have hearing loss as a result of my accident. I noticed the tinnitus about 3 months in. Was mild in the beginning but in the past 7-9 months has been a real challenge. I have not been able to notice any triggers for it. I wake up with it most days at varying levels. |

I'm 21 months in and my tinnitus is gradually receding, like you I was hoping it would be completely gone now, but it's not as intrusive as it was. I find it is sleep dependent and gets worse in the evening when I'm tired.

There are some treatment approaches using masking, white noise, and habituation that are supposedly effective. I think they are also expensive, however, and not typically covered by insurance. Check out this link for more info:
http://www.tinnitusclinicminnesota.com/ I don't know whether there are other clinics of this kind closer to you, but hopefully you can at least get some helpful info through the link.
