I was curious what were some of the most persistent long term PCS symptoms that are usually documented? Mark you might have the most knowledge on this however it would be great to hear others chime in.

There is no research documenting this. Every concussion symptom can persist for a long time. Read my signature and you will see what mine are. You can add headaches to my list. If you are asking this to compare your long term symptoms to others to decide if yours are normal, your quest is a losing game. There is no value to comparing. Every concussion is different even though they share many of the same symptoms.

I am new here. I have found some comfort learning of others symptoms and while there are differences there are similarities. I can tell you I found this site looking for answers about runaway anxiety and panic. It apparently is common as I see it mentioned here a lot. I also get overwhelmed around to much activity and noise....I did fine in a couple of stores yesterday and the third one I went to had a lot of customers talking and within 5 minutes I was overloaded. I am cold a great deal of the time. Sleep has become irratic...some nights very little, some nights more but restless and some nights peaceful I am starting to see some afternoons of calm and normalcy but the 2 steps forward and 1 step back theory applies. I hope this helps even a tiny bit and remember to stay positive. If it goes like me there are times when you get down but even then you can find a way to kick yourself in the butt forward eventually. Martin, I would imagine it would be very different for everyone.
Residual vertigo has persisted (although much better) and is I guess the only problematic long term issue for me. Some other things that were magnified post concussion have eased and some have not and so I tend to think they would have happened anyway, concussion or not. I just spent a few hrs in the ER myself last night after slipping on some wet outdoor tiles and hitting my head again and I'm just crossing my fingers in hope that this incident is not going to trigger off any more problems. Sometimes it's difficult to tell what is part of the syndrome and what is not, especially over a long period of time. Remember also that a many people who have posted here in the past have experienced extremely traumatic and complex injuries in accidents so it's not really possible to compare. If you read the thread in the Stickies at the top of the forum called 'posts on hope and healing' you can get a better idea of many other people who have posted here and who have done well. Bud, have you had your Thyroid checked recently? |

I have the same issue with sleep, sometimes I can fall asleep and will have deep sleep for at least 4 hours, most of the time I struggle to fall asleep and wake frequently, and my sleep is "shallow". I used to get really bad sweats at night, to the point where I thought I wet myself. Now I do get shivering chills sometimes during the day. Anxiety and panic attacks are a definite problem for me. I'm kind of lucky that I live alone and have no kids. So I can fairly easy regulate level of stress in my life. I was going through a high stress situation this summer and it wrecked havoc on my mental state. I had constant anxiety and panic attacks, every day for several months. Once I was done with the problem causing my stress, everything really calmed down over the course of a couple months. Now I do get occasional anxiety here and there, but it's not too bad compared to how it was.

12/02/2012 - Light concussion at boxing practice. Ended up having PCS for about 3 months. March 2013 - Thought that since most of my symptoms resolved I could start having fun again. Went snowmobiling once (didn't hit my head) and concussion symptoms returned and got even worse than before. June 2013 - accidentally bumped my head against a deck railing, and had a month-long setback. November 2013 - drove to work after a big snowstorm and the roads were very rough, ended up having another setback. 2014 - Having setbacks after coughing/sneezing too much, or someone slapping me on the back, or any other significant jarring. Feb 2014 - Started seeing Atlas Orthogonal chiro - most helpful doc so far. June 2014 - Two months of physical/visual therapy - no noticeable improvement. September 2014 - Diagnosed with Perilymph Fistula in right ear. November 2014 - Fistula surgery (switched to left ear before the surgery after additional testing). January 2016 - Quit work to "work" on figuring out PCS, so far it seems that eyes/vision issues are the most contributing factor, especially computer work. Current symptoms are: inconsistent sleep patterns, headaches, vertigo/dizziness, anxiety/panic attacks, mental fog/problems with concentration, problems with computer screens. |

sleep aids...less than 3mg of melatonin and....
using a smart phone or tablet. download the free app librivox. search for a free audio book on it...something that will draw you in...but not too much...lol use a free audio app like: aimp comfy earbuds...draw your mind into the story and while you attempt to sleep. keep your subconscious busy... (this helps pcs and ptds vets also) |

Welcome to the PCS NeuroTalk forum. I see you posted numerous times in New Member introductions. It would help if you reposted on this PCS forum. Few of us ever see the New Members posts. I saw that this post looked like it followed other posts that may be elsewhere so I went looking for the previous posts.
